A good movie

“When was the last time that Spike Lee actually had real critical hit? It must have been 10 years ago with ‘Inside Man’ and since then, he has been working mostly on some really obscure features that really didn’t get much love. It’s really too bad because I always had a weak spot for this di” read more

A good movie

“The last time I saw my sister, she bought me a DVD-box with the complete work of Xavier Dolan so that's how I ended up watching his movies. With this 2nd directing effort, there was an interesting evolution from 'J'ai tué ma mère', Nolan's directing debut, and it was definitely something more ambi” read more

A good movie

“Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this movie, I was quite eager to check it out. Eventually, even though I did like it, I still had a hard time to connect with the damned thing. I mean, I really enjoyed the black-and-white cinematography, it was really neat and appropriate and, once” read more

An average movie

“My kids really wanted to see this movie (especially my step-son, as the first installment  was the 2nd movie we went to see together when he was just about 10 years old) and since I kept hearing some pretty good things about the damned thing, I was also quite eager to check it out. An average movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie and you should probably re-watch it at some point. Anyway, I think it must be one of my wife’s favorite romantic-comedies but, personally, I always had some mixed feelings towards the damned thing. I mean, I have to admit it, as a conc” read more

Heat
Notes: I remember very well when this movie came out. Indeed, back then, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino were still a big deal and when the word came out that they would finally star together in a movie, like any other average movie fanatic, I was just thrilled. Eventually, I even saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released and I was certainly not disappointed. Of course, eventually, we were all slightly cheated since they only had two scenes together, for a total of less than 10 minutes, but it was still a very well made and really entertaining heist feature. The masterstroke with this movie is that, instead of rushing everything and focusing on the action scenes, they took their time. As a result, De Niro and Pacino had enough space to develop their characters and you had the opportunity to root for both guys, the thief and the cop, which is something very rare and it was very well handled here.

Toy Story
This entry is for the whole trilogy Toy Story (1995) Toy Story 2 (1999) Toy Story 3 (2010) Notes: So, that's where it all started for Pixar. Of course, Pixar was working on CGI animation for more than a decade but 'Toy Story' was their first full length feature and the first time they reached such a broad audience. At the time, there was a pretty good buzz about the 1st installment, I was even lucky to see it in the movie theater when it was first released but nobody expected that it would become such a phenomenon, creating a whole new trend of animated features in the process. Concerning 'Toy Story 2', the interesting thing is that this first sequel was actually quite amazing and many would argue that it is even better than its predecessor. I remember it very well, just like the first installment, I saw it in the movie theater when it was released and I was again really impressed. Indeed, this time, we were all used to this new CGI animation and even though the whole thing looked great, their masterstroke was above all another really entertaining tale about these toys. Not only it was completely entertaining but it was also quite deep, something which became Pixar's specialty through the years. Concerning'Toy Story 3', to be honest, I did like it, I really did, but I also really failed to see what was so great about it. Indeed, after its release, it was hailed as a real masterpiece but, personally, I don't think it was as good as many other Pixar features such as the first 2 Toy Story, Wall-E, UP or even Ratatouille. The point is that as usual the animation was great, especially if you compare it to the very first 'Toy Story' and they developed some interesting ideas about what will happen with them when their owner grow old. Still, I didn't care much about the whole escaping thing. I mean, it was entertaining enough but nothing amazing, especially compared to the previous installments.
