Shoah
Note : It wasn't a great movie, it turned out to be one of the best movies I have ever seen, no less than that. It is such a poweful and an important movie, I believe it should be a compulsory watch in school for all the teenagers. I mean, I have seen many movies dealing with WWII but even the great classics like 'Schindler's List' or 'The Pianist' don't come near the brutality displayed in this shattering documentary. Indeed, we have all heard about the holocaust but, with this movie, the total horror comes so close, following testimonies of the victims, the perpetrators and people who just happened to be around at the time. What happened at the time was so awful, it has been ever seen a trauma for the whole world but above all for Europa. 30 years later, all the people involved have now passed away making this movie even more valuable. A great classic

“Since I kept hearing some great things about this movie, I was really eager to check it out. To be honest, with its running time of more than 9 hours, it was slightly daunting and I wonder if it is really watchable in one sitting. In my case, I split it in 5 bits and it worked fine this way. A good movie

“At last, I have seen all the movies directed by Wes Anderson. Eventually, it took me a while to really get into in this director and, to be honest, I actually thoroughly enjoyed only his 3 last directing efforts. Still, he remains one of the most interesting American directors at work nowadays, at l” read more

Logan Lucky
Release date (U.S.) : 18 August 2017 directed by : Steven Soderbergh with : Riley Keough, Daniel Craig, Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Katie Holmes, Seth MacFarlane, Katherine Waterston, Hilary Swank plot : Two brothers attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina. Why do I want to see this ? I have some mixed feelings about this one. Indeed, on one hand, it is really nice that Soderbergh has decided to make a come-back from his self-inflected retirement but, on the other hand, it is rather lame to announce that you retire from film directing and then, only a couple of years later, to change your mind about the damned thing. Concerning the cast, half of it is really neat (Daniel Craig, Channing Tatum, Adam Driver) but the rest is rather lame (Katie Holmes, Seth MacFarlane). Anyway, we'll see. My verdict : Well, all in all, even though it was nothing really groundbreaking, it was still pretty entertaining. Indeed, I always had a weak spot for the heist genre and this one turned out to be pretty neat. As usual, Soderbergh had a solid cast at his disposal and they obviously all had some fun with the material. Still, even though it was a decent story, it was nothing really amazing though.

A classic

“Since it is a massive classic in France, I was quite eager to check it out. Indeed, in France, when I was a teenager, all the boys had heard about this movie and we all pretty much fantasized about the damned thing. Indeed, back in those days, there was no easy access to free porn on the internet (i” read more

The Wedding Banquet
Notes: To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie and maybe I should re-watch it at some point. However, I remember it very well when it came out, my sister was really enthusiast about the damned thing and told me I should definitely check it out. Indeed, way before ‘Brokeback Mountain’, Ang Lee directed this gem about gay love. Back then, obviously, nobody knew who was this director, myself included, but I was really impressed by this romantic-comedy. Thanks to this movie and its critical success, his career took off and he was then able to create all his following amazing features. The movie itself was obviously a comedy but a really sensitive one, it dealt very well with the subject and it was simply very entertaining. Eventually, Lee would direct one last one movie in Taiwan (the also really charming ‘Yin shi nan nu’) but he would quickly start a prolific international career becoming in the process easily one of the best directors of his generation.

An average movie

“Obviously, this movie was a big hit when it was released but, to be honest, I always had a hard time to really care about the damned thing. I mean sure, I have to admit it, the magical world was once again quite impressive and it was pretty neat to follow this group of young actors growing up in fro” read more

A classic

“When I was a kid, I watched many movies starring Bruce Lee with my father and I thought they were really awesome. Eventually, about 20 years later, I ended up watching one of them (I’m not really sure which one it was) with my step-son and, to be honest, I thought it was rather disappointing. Obvi” read more

An average movie

“Even though I have seen many movies, this must be one of the weirdest ones I have seen. First of all, even though it is easy to say that 5 years after this movie was released, it was pretty obvious that the whole thing was fake and I was rather surprised that Roger Ebert didn’t point it out in his” read more
