The Mandalorian
Cast : Pedro Pascal, Rosario Dawson, Ming-Na Wen, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Timothy Olyphant, Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte, John Leguizamo, Jennifer Beals, Temuera Morrison, Mark Hamill What was it about? The travels of a lone bounty hunter in the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic. My two cents: To be honest, I always had some mixed feelings about this TV-show. I mean, sure, it is fairly entertaining but I think its reputation has been artificially increased for two reasons. First, when Disney+ became available, it was the only original TV-show available for a very long time. Basically, there was nothing else to see exclusively only on this streaming platform. Second, everything released about Star Wars, arguably since the original trilogy, had been mostly disappointing so it was a rather low bar to achieve from the start. Still, there is no doubt that the Mandalorian is the coolest Star Wars character ever since Han Solo showed up already a few decades ago (too bad they made him remove his helmet at some point). It is also displayed Disney was willing to go really deep in their pockets to deliver some expansive TV-shows which could compete with your average blockbuster which was pretty exciting. Finally, it displayed that the Star Wars universe still had tremendous potential, especially if they finally let go of the Skywalker dynasty because, frankly, I think we can all agree that we had enough of them after a whopping three trilogies. Eventually, I hope they won’t milk dry this franchise for too long but I will keep watching it for the time being. My rating: 07/10

A good movie

“Since I have always been a huge fan of ‘Clerks’, of course, I was really eager to check this 3rd instalment. Well, to be honest, for a while, I was actually really worried. Indeed, there were just so many things that really didn’t work. There were some details like the fact that Jay And Silent” read more

Waco: American Apocalypse
What is it about? It showcases what happened in 1993 in Waco, Texas when cult leader David Koresh faced off against the federal government in a siege of 51 days. My verdict: Even if I was just a kid at the time, I remember very well this news story and I was always intrigued by this horrific true tale and I always wondered what the hell happened back then. Well, even though the conspiracy theorists might argue otherwise, I thought they gave here a fairly unbiased point of view. Basically, even though David Koresh was indeed seriously messed up, who knows how many more lives could have been saved if the FBI didn't really screw up this operation? The fact that they wrapped up this story in 3 hours was also appreciated.

A classic

“To be honest, I usually don’t care at all about Christmas movies but since this one was a classic and since it was available on Disney+, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, at first, I was worried that this movie would be pretty cheesy but, slowly, I have to admit that the damned thing a” read more

Miracle on 34th Street
Notes: At first, I was worried that this movie would be pretty cheesy but, slowly, I have to admit that the damned thing actually won me over. Indeed, even if you don’t believe in Santa Claus (I sure never did), it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy Christmas, in the contrary, and I always loved this holiday. Eventually, the whole point of this movie was not if Santa Claus was real or not or if Kris Kringle was actually really Santa Claus or not, this movie was actually mostly about the Christmas spirit. I especially enjoyed this segment during which Macy’s owner discovered that the most profitable way to manage a store is by actually helping their customers, even if it meant sending them to their competitors. Of course, their best wild card was Edmund Gwenn who was just so pitch-perfect in this role. Without him, I’m not sure if the movie would have really worked, he was deservedly praised for his performance and, so far, he is the only actor to have ever won an Academy Award for playing Santa Claus. The fact that the lovely Maureen O'Hara was involved also definitely helped, even if the change of heart made by her character was probably too abrupt. On the other hand, how it was handled with Susan Walker (I didn’t recognize Natalie Wood at all by the way) was much more subtle and so well done.

An average movie

“First of all, I have to admit that I had never heard of this movie so I had no idea what to expect from it. I actually ended up watching the damned thing because, the last time I went to France, my sister gave me this movie on DVD. To be honest, it took me a while to figure out that it was shot wit” read more
