Tár
chosen by Ria Notes: Well, I didn't expect to be blown away like this. To be honest, it's not an easy movie, in fact, it turned out to be a very complex character study and I'm not sure if it really required almost 3 hours of running time. Indeed, it takes forever before the world of Lydia Tár starts to finally unravel and, while I was watching the damned thing, I thought it was rather frustrating that we didn't get more information about her past, her lies and her alleged abuses. The fact that so many elements were kept in the dark probably didn’t help. It's only afterwards that I understood that we saw this whole story only through her own perspective and, eventually, this approach was quite brilliant. Basically, to reach this position, she did many great things and a lot more that was probably not so great but, above all, she created her own bubble from which she (thought she) could control her own narrative. As a result, she constantly filtered everything that didn't fit in the character and story she had created. She did it so much at this point that it was not a wonder that she started to loose her grip on what was real or not but I guess that's something rather common with pathological liars. In a similar way, you don't see or hear what other people really thinks of her. Basically, it's a tale about how power corrupts people and the fact that it centers on a woman (a fact which has been criticized by some viewers) was really intriguing. Eventually, it was a fascinating character and, of course, Cate Blanchett delivered here a career-best performance. (Mar. 2023)

A good movie

“Even though this movie apparently didn’t receive some stellar reviews, just like the other movies focusing on this character, I didn’t have some really high expectations but since I have been following the MCU from the very beginning, I still wanted to check it out. Well, to be honest, I was act” read more

A good movie

“To be honest, I wasn’t really sure to what to expect from this flick but since it was starring Jesse Eisenberg and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it turned out to be an intriguing movie, that’s for sure. Indeed, even though the tone was fairly we” read more

Murder!
Notes: Basically, it is one of Alfred Hitchcock's very old features but I thought it was actually very enjoyable. Indeed, back in those days, Hitchcock was really productive, often making 3 movies a year and during these period, he tried about everything from comedies to drama. With this movie, we finally get to see the great master handling the genre that would make him an household name, the mystery thriller, and it was just a really fun movie to behold. Indeed, the directing was really neat with some nice visual tricks and there were also a lot of funny bits contrasting with the mystery elements. Of course, it doesn’t the reach the greatness of his amazing classics. Indeed, the plot didn’t really hold very well in the 2nd half and this guy, John Mercier, was an intriguing character but he was a little too self-righteous for my taste. Still, among the older movies made by the master, it is one of his best and it is definitely worth a look.

Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes
What is it about? Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer confesses to his gruesome crimes in unguarded interviews, offering an unsettling view into a disturbed mind. My verdict: Ok.... Basically, I didn't follow my own advice and I watched this docu-series right after I finished 'Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story'... After all, I guess I thought I might as well get done with Jeffrey Dahmer once and for all instead of getting back to him later on. Anyway, if you have watched Ryan Murphy's monster hit, to be honest, there is no real point to watch this series as well since Murphy's thing was already so thorough. Sure, they did tweak some details but it was rather minor in my point. The upside with the docu-series was that it covered up pretty much the same material with only 3 hrs instead of 9 but, if you don't mind spending so much time with Dahmer's sick mind, you should probably watch Ryan Murphy's mini-series instead. Now, I will definitely watch something completely different, I swear...
