Even though this movie didn’t get much love when it was released, since I’m a huge fan of the [Link removed - login to see][Link removed - login to see][Link removed - login to see][Link removed - login to see][Link removed - login to see][Link removed - login to see]’s work, I was really eager to check it out. Well, at first, I was actually positively surprised by the damned thing. Indeed,  it was a really neat mix between a standard thriller and the typical sober and hyper-realistic directing style of the Dardenne Brothers. On top of that, the brothers once again discovered another promising actress and Adèle Haenel gave here a really strong performance. So, for a while, I thought it could turn out to be a really nice surprise but, unfortunately, the end-result still didn’t really convince me. The first thing that bothered me was the fact that the main character didn’t go to the police at some point after gathering so much information. However, the ending turned out to be a bigger problem though. Indeed, even though nobody would talk to the main character which made sense, at some point, out of nowhere, everybody would start to confess everything to her which was rather weak in my opinion. Basically, like any other average mystery thriller, the Dardennes brother didn’t really manage to give this story an interesting conclusion which was too bad. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its strong potential, it turned out to be rather disappointing but I still think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

Since this movie was the last part of Edgar Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, of course, I was really eager to check it out. In fact, even though ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’ immediately became some cult-classics, this movie didn’t actually make much waves, maybe  because it was released 6 long years after its predecessor. Well, anyway, even though it turned out to be fun, I can’t say I was really convinced though. First of all, probably because of its title, I thought it might be a disaster movie but, in fact, they went for something more like ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ which unfortunately turned out to be a rather poor idea. Indeed, I’m not sure what bothered me the most, the fact that these alien robots were so lame or the fact that this concept was just way too similar to the zombies displayed in ‘Shaun of the Dead’. Fortunately, pretty much everything else was quite pitch-perfect and really damned entertaining. Indeed, I really loved the idea of this group of friends reuniting 20 years later facing the challenge of visiting all the pubs of the town of their youth and, basically, half of the movie, the cast was pretty much drunk which was just pretty fun to behold, especially thanks to a really solid cast. To conclude, even if I wasn’t completely sold, it was still a decent watch and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre. 

Since this movie was rather well received and since I have a weak spot for Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, to be honest, even though it turned out to be a decent watch, it didn’t really blow me away though. First of all, I actually had a hard time with Ryan Reynolds. I mean, it was pretty neat that he was cast against type but he never really convinced me. To make things worse, up until  the moment he made his first trip to Austria, the guy kept cracking his usual wise-ass jokes which felt rather misguided.  Eventually, except for wearing some glasses, Reynolds didn’t do much to hide his good looks and I still had the feeling that I was watching some model and not an actual lawyer. It was even more awkward when, towards the end,  you get to see a picture of the real Randy Schoenberg who was apparently some average looking nerd. The funny thing is that Helen Mirren is also considered as one of the most gorgeous women in her age category but, in contrary to Reynolds, it was never a problem in this movie. Indeed, Mirren gave here once again a really solid performance and she was completely convincing playing this character. Concerning the story, it was quite interesting but, to be honest, after watching the amazing and heartbreaking ‘Saul Fia’, it felt a little bit light. Anyway, to conclude, even though I don’t think it was really amazing, it was still not bad at all and it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre. 

I had already seen this movie but since it was ages ago and since I had this movie on DVD, I was quite eager to check it out again. Well, to be honest, I always had some mixed feelings about this movie. I mean, if you would compare it to all the garbage Robert De Niro is making nowadays or any average thriller coming from Hollywood, it is actually pretty dammed entertaining but if you would compare it to the great masterpieces involving Scorsese and De Niro, it was definitely a minor effort. I mean, sure, the directing was really solid and it was a great reminder that De Niro used to be one of the best actors in the world as he gave here such an intense performance. While watching this flick, I was also impressed by Juliette Lewis who was really convincing even though she was just about 18 years old at the time. Still, all in all, even though the story was entertaining, it was nothing mind-blowing or original and you could easily imagine that, with a lesser director and lead actor, it could have turned out to be rather lame and generic. Anyway, to conclude, even though it was definitely not a masterpiece, it was still a really solid thriller and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Martin Scorsese's work.

To be honest, I really had no idea what to expect from this flick. Indeed, I was browsing through the movies in Netlix and I came across this movie which sounded actually really lame. But then, I noticed that Johnny Depp was involved so I thought I might as well check it out. First of all, it was just so weird to watch this movie thinking that Donald Trump has since then actually become the President of the United States. I mean, when we heard that the guy was running for candidate, we all thought that he was hopeless. Then, he was running against Hillary Clinton and, until the last minute, everyone thought that she would easily win and, yet, somehow, Trump still managed to become the most powerful man on Earth which is not only completely surreal  but also rather scarry. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, I have to admit that it was rather hit-and-miss. Still, it was pretty neat to see Johnny Depp who gave here a solid performance in my opinion. Anyway, to conclude, even though it was nothing really amazing, I though it was still a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
