(A review of
The Impostors)
Honestly, I wonder how I ended up watching this flick, I guess it was because there was a decent cast. Indeed, in my opinion, Oliver Platt can be sometime hilarious, he is definitely a really underrated actor and I guess I hoped this flick would be quite funny. Eventually, at the beginning of the movie, there was an amazing slasptick scene which I found really awesome but, unfortunately, the rest of the flick failed to deliver and the whole thing was therefore rather disappointing. I mean, it was not bad at all but I really didn't care much about the story or the characters and the whole thing was just not funny enough in my opinion. Through the years, Stanley Tucci has built up a side career as a director but he never really became a major player in that field and when you watch this movie, it is hardly surprising. At least, Tucci managed to get a pretty nice cast (Oliver Platt, Alfred Molina, Michael Emerson, Lili Taylor, Tony Shalhoub, Steve Buscemi, Richard Jenkins, Isabella Rossellini, Campbell Scott, Billy Connolly, Hope Davis and even Woody Allen). Still, even though it is absolutely nothing really amazing whatsoever, it remains a decent movie with some pretty good actors and I think it is worth a look, especially if you are interested in Oliver Platt and Stanley Tucci.

(A review of
Home of the Brave)
I wasnât sure what to expect from this flick but since there was a pretty cool cast, I thought I should check it out. First of all, I have noticed that most of the movies dealing with the Irak war are usually flops (even âThe Hurt Lockerâ which was universally heralded was actually barely seen when it was released). Personally, I found those movies are actually quite interesting and this movie was not an exception. Basically, it deals with several stories (hyperlink cinema is the official term) which interact more or less which each other and the common theme is that they are all dealing with the Irak war. I thought that all the actors involved (Samuel L. Jackson, Jessica Biel, 50 Cent, Christina Ricci, Chad Michael Murray) gave some strong perfomances and the directing was pretty good too. Still, it wasnât really a strong script, it was decent at best and, at the end of the day, I was rather underwhelmed by most of the storylines. For Irwin Winkler who is mostly known as a producer, it would be his last directing effort. To conclude, even though it is flawed, it remains a well made and interesting drama and it is definitely worth a look.

Flight of the Phoenix)
Honestly, I wasnât sure what to expect from this flick but since there was a decent cast, I thought I might as well give it a try. Apparently, it is a remake of an older flick starring James Stewart and Richard Attenborough, a flick I have actually never heard of but considering the decent ratings, it seems to be pretty good. Anyway, since I haven't seen the original, I can't say if this remake is better or not but I thought it was not bad at all after all. Indeed, there was a decent cast made of B actors (Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Giovanni Ribisi, Miranda Otto, Hugh Laurie, Jared Padalecki) and I always had a weak spot for adventure/survival flicks. Of course, all the characters were all very stereotypical and the whole thing was rather predictable. Furthermore, to be honest, I wondered the whole time if what they said or did made sense at all but, still, even though it was nothing amazing whatsoever, I was rather entertained throughout the whole duration. To conclude, it is nothing really original but I thought it was a well made and entertaining flick so I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

(A review of
Home Alone 3)
Obviously, I was expecting much from this flick. I mean, it didnât care much for âHome Aloneâ, even if it is supposed to be a classic and this 2nd sequel was not even starring Macauley Culkin who was the selling point of this franchise. So, basically, it was one of those cases that, beforehand, I was expecting to watch the worst movie ever made but, eventually, it was not that bad after all. Just for the record, I didn't say it was good or anything but it was simply not the worst movie I have ever seen. I would go as far as saying that this movie was actually better than the second one which was, in my opinion, totally lame. The point is that I always thought that Macauley Culkin was actually rather obnoxious in these movies so, frankly, for me, it wasn't a real loss when they decided to go for another kid. On a side note, it was actually one of the first movies starring Scarlett Johansson and she would get her breakthrough eventually a year later with âThe Horse Whispererâ. Anyway, to conclude, it is a very average kid flick, I donâ think it is really worth a look and, if you are older than 12 years old, you should probably avoid it.

Marley & Me)
Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this flick but, somehow, I still ended up watching it. Indeed, most of the movies dealing with the relationships between men and their pets usually bore me to death and, even if this movie was actually well received, I was pretty much I wouldnât like it. I wonder if my wife actually saw this flick, since she is a dog lover (we have 6 of them right now. I know, thatâs a lot and Iâd rather not talk about this subjectâŚ), she would definitely like or even love it. Still, I have to admit it, it wasn't bad at all. To start with, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Anniston both delivered some pretty good and believable performances and above all, I thought the whole thing was rather well made and written. Still, due to its total lack of originality, I can't say I was blown away by this movie. Furthermore, if Owen Wilson was trying something else for a change, Jennifer Anniston was again playing the same character all over again and it is getting pretty tiresome at this point. To conclude, it is a well made but very standard and predictable drama but I think it is still worth a look, especially if you are a dog lover.

Yes Man)
To enjoy this movie, it all depends where you stand concerning Jim Carrey. Basically, if you love the guy, you'll probably love this movie as well and if you can't stand him, I guess you'd better pass on this one. Jim Carrey has a pretty decent career and I like the way he mixes some pretty straightforward comedies and some more edgy material. This time, it is pretty obvious that this movie belonged to the first category but I thought it was not bad at all. Two things bothered me though. The first one is that I thought it was just way too similar to 'Liar Liar'. Indeed, in 'Liar Liar', Carrey couldn't lie and this time, he cannot say 'no' so the concept felt like a big dĂŠjĂ vu. The other thing that bothered me was that not only the whole concept was not really original, it actually didn't work out very well and felt forced. But still, Jim Carrey was, as usual, quite hilarious and Zooey Deschanel was awesome and very charming. To conclude, it is a rather standard and unoriginal Carrey comedy but it is still pretty entertaining and just plain funny, so I think it is worth a look, especially if you enjoyed the previous comedies starring Jim Carrey.

My Stepmother Is an Alien)
I had no idea what to expect from this flick but, somehow, I still ended up watching it. In my opinion, the best thing about this movie was the title. With such a title, the makers put themselves quite under pressure and you could be sure even before watching it that it would be either a totally whack and surrealist piece of work or just another lame and underwhelming comedy. Unfortunately, this movie definitely belonged to the 2nd category and it's too bad because the whole thing really had some potential. Indeed, even though Kim Basinger is far from being a great actress, at least, she did her best and she was not bad at all but I never found her or her character really hilarious. On the other hand , Dan Aykroyd did his usual goofy act and wasn't really funny either. Eventually, the main issue here was that the whole thing was just too predictable and, above all, not really funny whatsoever. Maybe I was a fool to expect anything from this. Anyway, to conclude, it is not a really bad movie but, at the end of the day, it is still pretty damned average and I donât think it is really worth a look.

Gunga Din)
I wasnât really sure what to expect from this movie but since it was on the list â1001 Movies You Must See Before You Dieâ, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, it took me a while to get into this flick. Indeed, I was really bothered by this âWhite Men Burden'sâ crap and, you can say whatever you want but the damned thing was just really discriminating towards the natives (Basically, they were either portrayed as some obedient servants or some psychotic killers). However, I have to admit that I was still swept away by the whole thing which was basically some rather old fashioned action-adventure flick. Back then, they included in their action movies some fist fighting, sword fighting, shootings and explosions. Furthermore, Cary Grant was pretty awesome and, in this movie, you could really see the uncanny resemblance with George Clooney. Eventually, it is quite obvious that this movie has been a huge influence for many adventure flicks that came afterwards (the first that came to my mind was, of course, 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom'). To conclude, I donât think it is really a great flick but it was entertaining and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.Â

(A review of
Judgment in Berlin)
Well, it must be one of the most obscure movies I have seen since I was only the 2nd listal member who rated the damned thing and during the following 5 years, only 2 other members apparently saw it. Not to be confused with the classic âJudgement at Nurembergâ, it is basically a really unknown and forgotten feature starring Sean Penn and directed by his father, Leo Penn. Well, even though this kind of movies turns out to be usually terribly lame, to be honest, I was actually positively surprised by this one and I thought it was actually quite interesting. Above all, I was once again rather impressed by Sean Penn. I mean, sure, he only had indeed a small part but he gave one hell of a  monologe and, only for this scene, it was worth a watching the whole thing. Concerning the rest of the movie, I thought it was quite realistic and convincing which was pretty neat but, to be honest, it was pretty technical, especially concerning the legal terms and I must admit that I was sometimes a little bit lost. Still, even though it wasnât flawless, it was a decent watch  and I think it is worth a look.

(A review of
Planes, Trains & Automobiles)
Since this movie had a really good reputation, I was quite eager to check it out and I had some rather high expectations. On the other hand, after watching so many disappointing flicks starring Steve Martin, to be honest, I kind of lost faith in the guy. On top of that, I always had a hard time to care for John Huguesâs work and, after watching almost all his movies, I came up to the conclusion that this guy might be one of the most overrated directors ever . Well, fortunately, this time, I was pleasantly surprised. Indeed, I turned out to be pretty entertaining and I especially enjoyed the beginning in the conference room and the race for the taxi. Furthermore, there was some great chemistry between John Candy and Steve Martin and there were tons of good jokes along the road. Still, even though it was quite quite entertaining, I still canât say that I was completely blown away by this movie. The main issue I had is that, pretty much like in all the other movies directed by John Hugues, in my opinion, the whole thing was actually rather shallow. Anyway, even though I donât think it is a real masterpiece, I have to admit that it is still a very good comedy and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.Â
