An average movie

“I really had no idea what to expect from this movie but since I have a weak spot for Angelina Jolie, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, I have to admit that I was really surprised by how awesome the concept was. Indeed, it was dealing with a great surgeon who lost his license because he w” read more

A classic

“Since this movie is a huge classic and is very often considered as one of the best movies directed by Ingmar Bergman, I was really eager to check it out and I had some really high expectations. Well, to be honest, as usual with this director, I had a rather hard time to connect with the damned thing” read more

A classic

“Since this movie is a classic and since it was included in the '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die' list, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, even though it was indeed pretty good, to be honest, it didn't completely blow me away. First of all, even though Joan Crawford delivered a solid pe” read more

“Since this movie had a solid reputation and since it was involving a strong cast and a very good director, I was really eager to check it out and I had some rather high expectations. Lolita
Notes: Among all the masterpieces Stanley Kubrick has made throughout his prestigious career, this flick doesn't seem to get much love but I do believe that it is actually rather underrated. As usual with Kubrickโ€™s work, even if the movie is nowadays almost 50 years old, it still feels really modern. I mean, can you imagine how it must have felt when the folks watched it 50 years ago ?!? Even though there is no sex scene, there is such a huge sexual tension and Kubrick dared to tackle here one of the biggest taboos in our society. Even though it is common practice to cast much older actors to play some teenagers, with the notorious example of 'Grease' with some actors well in their 30's portraying some 18 years old kids, Kubrick cast a young girl (Sue Lyon) who was just 15 years old during the shooting and it made the whole thing even more unsettling. Anyway, there was here some flawless directing, the acting was great and the story was just spellbinding to watch.
