A good movie

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since I always had a weak spot for Yes and since this movie was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. To be honest, I have to admit that, in the progressive rock genre, I always preferred Pink Floyd which was and stil” read more

A good movie

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. I always have been a huge fan of ‘Woodstock’, the festival itself but also the documentary. Well, a movie about a similar music festival taking place in Rotterdam ” read more

Twisters
Notes: It was basically an old fashioned blockbuster, the ones you used to get back in the 90’s, and it was definitely some harmless brainless entertainment. Concerning the characters, sure, they were all rather stereotypical but it really helped that they had some solid actors at their disposal, especially Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell who had some nice chemistry together. I also did appreciate the fact that, even though they all felt that it was really cool to see some awesome tornados, their priority was always the safety of the people living in these areas and who were afflicted by them which was a nice touch. There were also some devil real-estate guy buying for cheap the destroyed properties but, even though it might not be far from the truth, it was probably the only thing in this movie which felt rather half-baked. I mean, if you already have to face some tornados, who needs some extra bad guy? Anyway, even if it was nothing really ground-breaking, I have to admit that it was quite fun though.

A good movie

“The main reason why I ended up watching this flick was because I’m staying with my uncle and aunt for a while right now and my uncle wanted to watch a Western. To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it seemed to have a decent reputation and since it was avai” read more

Notes: After hearing so many bad things about this movie, I seriously lowered my expectations but I still ended up watching the damned thing in the movie theater. Anyway, probably because I was expecting something so awful but I don’t think it was so bad after all. Sure, it was nothing amazing and it did feel indeed rather half-baked but I thought the end-result was harmless and there were even a couple of decent ideas. I mean, it was directed by a woman with a cast of interesting actresses (Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O'Connor, Emma Roberts) and I liked how all these characters were connected together. Unfortunately, even though Tahar Rahim is a fine actor, his bad guy was just so underwhelming. Basically, he was some kind of villainous version of Spider-Man shooting some poison instead of webs. Anyway, the guy was pretty lame. Furthermore, it was pretty obvious that they struggled with the script (according to Dakota Johnson, the end-result had actually pretty much nothing to do anymore with the script she signed on to make). I mean, you get to see the main character driving around, she drops the girls into some random woods so she can go back to New York just to read some journal and goes back again to these woods and all this with the same stolen cab. Then, after this very clunky sequence, she then dumped then again so she could make some trip to Peru which was just weird. The ending was also hardly convincing. Indeed, it is not as if all these girls were orphans so it didn’t make sense that Cassandra Webb would become their foster somehow.

A good movie

“To be honest, I wasn’t actually planning to see this movie on Disney+ but my youngest daughter was quite eager to watch it in the movie theater. Apparently, it turned out to be a huge success at the box-office and I have to admit that it turned out to be one of the better Pixar sequels. Indeed, th” read more

Poker Face
Notes: To be honest, I didn’t expect it to be so lame after all. I understand Russell Crowe has now entered a phase in his career during which he just wants to do whatever he wants and doesn’t give a sh*t anymore about what everybody else might be thinking, good for him, but, seriously, what was the point in making this movie? It couldn’t be the money since he probably didn’t get much to do it and basically no one saw it when it was released but it couldn’t have been the abysmal story or concept either (was there an actual concept involved here actually?). Anyway, I always had a weak spot for movies dealing with poker and, with such a title, you might have expected to see plenty of playing action but you will be really disappointing since they only played for a short while after all. I guess the basic idea was to show that the main character was going through life as if it was some kind of poker game but I can’t say the end-result was deep whatsoever. Concerning the characters, none of them was interesting but the fact that they were not developed probably didn’t help either. Sure, Elsa Pataky is still really lovely but what was the point of her character who showed up for 10 mins to deal some cards and then completely disappeared afterwards? Eventually, even though ‘The Water Diviner’ was not a bad directorial debut, this sophomore effort was just abysmal and it seems that Crowe should just stick to acting.
