Notes: In my opinion, you have Hitchcock here at the very top of his Art. Basically, the whole thing looked amazing and I have never seen such a spellbinding progression in a thriller. Through the whole thing, you can’t help wonder what is going on with this mysterious woman and like James Stewart, you are pretty much getting obsessed with this lady. The other thing I loved about this flick is how well developed the main character was. Indeed, it was probably the most messed up lead character provided by Hitchcock through his whole career. Between his vertigo issues and his obsessions with the ladies, the guy is far from your usual perfect heroes. Unsurprisingly, like many other great movies, it was a flop when it was released, financially and critically, and it was a huge disappointment for Hitchcock. As far as I'm concerned, the only minor flaw was that they could have removed the flashback revealing the whole scheme. In my opinion, it would have been even better if we discovered the truth at the same time with the same character but it wasn’t a big deal and it is basically a fascinating movie.

Dark City
Notes: I remember it very well, when this movie was released, there was not so much buzz about it but I still ended up watching it with my two of my buddies in the theater. To be honest, we were completely stoned when we went to watch it and the only thing I could remember was that my friends were constantly fidgeting and fighting on their chairs and I think the movie was pretty weird but I sure didn't have a clue what was going on. Anyway, a few years later, I watched it again, sober this time, and, this time around, it completely floored me. Indeed, even though 'The Crow', Alex Proyas' previous directing effort, was pretty good and had received some pretty good reviews, his follow-up feature was miles better in my opinion. Indeed, it had some great visuals and a fascinating story. Back then, everybody saw and talked about 'The Matrix' and most of us missed this gem. In my opinion, this movie is in fact much better than 'The Matrix' and fortunately, it has now a deserved cult following. Afterwards, Alex Proyas did get involved in some interesting projects later on in his career but, unfortunately, none of them reached the level of this movie.

“Even though this movie had been a major critical failure when it had been finally released after months of delay, since I have a weak spot for Xavier Dolan’s work, I was still quite eager to check it out. Well, unfortunately, I’m afraid it really deserved its poor reputation. Indeed, even though” read more

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Notes: Basically, it is my favorite Western. Indeed, I started to watch it as a kid with my father and I was actually planning to watch it again this time with my step-son but I ended up watching it on my own. I guess it is just too slow-paced for him. Anyway, I had recently watched again ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ and ‘For a Few Dollars More’ so I obviously had to round up this trilogy with this seminal classic. In my opinion, it clearly stands apart from the rest of the trilogy as the scope was much bigger this time and Sergio Leone had a rather impressive budget, at least for the time period. Indeed, there was even some room for a war scene and Leone didn’t really focus on Clint Eastwood like in the previous movies but he spent some good amount of time with Eli Wallach who had a great character (as a matter of fact, he even had the most screen-time) and he made a great duo with Eastwood. Maybe they could have developed a little more Lee Van Cleef’s character but it wasn’t really a big deal. Eventually, it is pretty much a childhood favorite which goes with Star Wars and Indiana Jones and it is obviously a great classic.

“To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I really enjoyed ‘Short Term 12’, I was really eager to check Destin Daniel Cretton’s following directing effort which was also starring Brie Larson. Well, to be honest, I had a hard time to judge this movie. Indeed,” read more

GoodFellas (1990)
Notes: For many people, it remains the best movie directed by Martin Scorsese and, for some, it is even the best movie ever made. Personally, I think it is probably the first flick directed by Scorsese that I saw. Back then, I must been have 15-16 years old and, indeed, I thought it was just awesome. Whereas I had to watch the Godfather at least twice before I was really able to enjoy it, I loved this movie right away. Indeed, the whole thing was just full of energy and adrenaline, filled with conflicted and fascinating characters. Basically, it is a great movie and of course one of the best movies directed by Martin Scorsese. Still, as I grow older I must admit that, in the same genre, I tend to enjoy more The Godfather flicks than this one because they are more subtle and more cerebral in my opinion but it remains a great movie. The whole thing is just plain entertaining and completely fascinating and unfortunately, once again, back then, Martin Scorsese was ignored by the academy and, instead, the decent but not really great 'Dances with the wolves' ended up with the big prize.

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was directed by John Landis, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I really had a hard time to care about the damned thing after all. First of all, the whole concept was at best rather generic. In fact, that was” read more
