A good movie

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. To be honest, I thought it was directed by Makoto Shinkai who made the massively successful 'Your Name.' but it was in fact directed by 3 other guys. Anyway, it wasn't a” read more

“To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick, especially after I watched the trailer which made the whole thing looked really lame. However, Nick, my step-son, was really eager to check it out so  I still saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released. Well, eventually, I” read more

“I already saw this movie but since I just bought an awesome brand new TV, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, even though this movie was a critical and commercial flop when it was released, to be honest, I don’t think it was so bad after all. Indeed, the whole thing looked amazing,” read more

A good movie

“Since this movie has a really solid reputation (it is even included in '1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die' list), I was really eager to check it out and I had some rather high expectations. Well, eventually, it turned out to be a decent stoner comedy but definitely not the best I have seen and” read more

The Cranes Are Flying
Notes: Above all, I was really impressed by how visually amazing it was. Indeed, this movie featured some hand-held camera scenes which were groundbreaking for the time period and, even 70 years later, these scenes are still so thrilling to behold. Concerning the cast, Tatyana Samoylova was just so charismatic, she was quite spellbinding and I’m not surprised that she was praised for her performance when this movie was released. To be honest, I didn’t care much for either Boris or Mark but I think the main focus was Veronica played beautifully by Samoylova. Concerning the story itself, it was not bad at all but I think it was probably the least interesting aspect of this otherwise fascinating movie. Sure, on one hand, it was interesting to see for the first time the impact of WWII on the Soviet population. However, on the other hand, this story of a young man super eager to join the army as a patriotic gesture and eventually ending up being butchered was hardly original though. Another thing that did bother me was the fact that it was never properly explained why Veronica suddenly got married with Mark when she was still clearly in love with Boris, especially since, at the time, there was no indication that Boris was dead. I still really enjoyed the damned thing though.

Split Screen: '80s Remakes (11 movies items)

"The most interesting thing about your list is that, if you look at the adjusted gross, the remakes almost never made more money than the original versions."

The Ridiculous 6
Victim: - Julia Jones Worldwide Gross: none (streaming feature) Note: Well, to be honest, even though I have never cared for Adam Sandler's work, I didn't think it was so awful afterwards. I mean, sure, it was still pretty lame and not really funny at all but the guy had done much worse in the past and I don't think it was such a bad idea to mix his humor with the Western genre. At least, it was more original than most of his flicks and the cast involved was pretty decent. Helll, I even thought that Taylor Lautner was actually funny. However, as usual with Sandler, the whole thing was still rather misguided.
