A very good movie

“When I heard that my uncle wanted to watch a movie about the tragedy in Utøya, I thought he meant the movie '22 July' directed by Paul Greengrass also coming out this year. Anyway, it doesn't really matter since it was such a powerful movie and easily one of the best I have seen this year. In my op” read more

A good movie

“Since I kept hearing some interesting things about this movie , I was quite eager to check it out. Well, eventually, it wasn't an easy watch, in fact, it was sometimes downright unpleasant to behold but, even so, I still think it was pretty good though. Basically, I think it could be described as so” read more

"@AVPGuyver21, in my opinion, 'Cape Fear' is more thriller than horror, and that applies for both versions."

An average movie

“Since Nick, my step-son, was really eager to check this flick, we went to see it in the movie theater when it was released. To be honest, I have to admit that it did turn out to be slightly better than I expected. Indeed, what bother me the most with the previous installment was that it was just too” read more

The Apartment
Notes: Since, it is a huge classic, I was really eager to check it out and I had some rather huge expectations. Indeed, it is supposed to be one of the greatest comedies ever made but, to be honest, even though I thought it was quite enjoyable and entertaining, I can’t say I wasn't really blown away by the whole thing. I mean, sure, it was pretty good, and I enjoyed it but I wasn't really laughing out loud but merely smiling during the whole thing. In my opinion, it is one of those comedies which was really great and ground-breaking when it was released but, nowadays, it all feels rather out-dated. I mean, it still remains a pretty good comedy, it is just I don’t really see what was so great about it. On top of that, I have to admit that Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine both gave some really solid performances. Considering Billy Wilder’s work, after watching 8 of his movies, I came to the conclusion that I enjoyed much more his dramas than his comedies. Anyway, even though I’m not a huge fan of this flick, it is still a classic.

Utøya: July 22
Notes: Eventually, the greatest success of this movie was to show not only that the guy shot more 170 people but, above all, the impact on the 300 remaining survivors would be psychologically traumatised maybe forever. Indeed, for more than an hour, they have nowhere to hide, they have no idea about what is really going on, who is attacking them and why, and if someone will finally show up to stop this nightmare. In the mean time, the shooting keeps going on and they do see other survivors running around scared shitless and they hear people screaming so it was a real nightmare and that's why the one-take gimmick really worked. Indeed, this way, there was no break to allow the viewers to breath for a moment and, this way, not only you're on the first line but you get eventually completely sucked in this tragedy. Anyway, to conclude, the whole thing was just really heartbreaking and terrifying at same time.

Red Riding Hood
Note : Catherine Hardwicke had been heavily and, in my opinion, unfairly criticised for 'Twilight' when, in fact, it became the highest grossing movie ever directed by a woman (at least, at the time). Well, this follow-up turned out to be so much worse. Seriously, it was supposed to be a really misguided mix of the classic Red Riding Hood with some werewolves and pretty much nothing worked. At least, the lovely Amanda Seyfried was a good choice to play the lead but that would probably be the only positive thing I could think of. I mean, once again, Hardwicke gave us another seriously ugly CGI werewolf and even this village looked terribly fake. Then, as I mentioned before, the whole concept was just misguided and, above all, terribly boring. To make things worse, Hardwicke gave us another terribly tedious love triangle involving 3 teenagers. Basically, it seems that she took the worst elements of 'Twilight' and mashed them up with this classic tale which was barely recognisable.

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this flick but since I always had a weak spot for the late Anton Yelchin, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I was amazed by how disappointing the damned thing actually turned out to be, especially since it has such a solid rating on ” read more
