A good movie

“Since I really liked the original version and since this movie really had a solid reputation as well, I was quite eager to check it out. In fact, the first version I saw was the 3rd one directed by Abel Ferrara but, to be honest, at the time, I thought it was really weak but since Roger Ebert appare” read more

It has been very well documented that Joss Whedon took over the directing duties not to improve or fix this movie but because Zack Snyder was facing a huge personal tragedy and was not able to finish

A good movie

“Even though the DCEU movies didn't get much love so far, except for 'Wonder Woman', I was still  eager to check this flick. Well, it was not bad at all after all. Eventually, even though it might be unfair, the main problem was that Marvel has set the expectations so high following the huge critica” read more

Notes: Honestly, it has been a while since I have watched this flick and maybe I should re-watch it again at some point. Anyway, back in the 90’s, I was quite a fan of Ken Loach’s work so I was quite eager to check this movie, one of his very first. Indeed, it is usually considered a massive classic from the British cinema so I had some rather high expectations. Eventually, to be honest, even though I thought it was a decent watch, I can’t say I was really blown away by the whole thing. I don’t know, maybe I was just too young at the time to really appreciate it but I just couldn’t see what so amazing about the damned thing. I mean, the directing was solid, as usual with this director, and I always loved the way he mixes a really realistic barren social environment with a captivating dramatic story. Furthermore, the young actor playing the lead character was also really good as well. And yet, this tale was slightly too generic and predictable to become really remarkable. Still, it is a solid drama.

An average movie

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since I have a weak spot for Audrey Tautou, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, eventually, even though the damned thing was sold as another whimsical romantic-comedy starring Audrey Tautou, especially after the huge success of 'Le fa” read more

Notes: Since it is such a classic, I was really eager to check it out and I had some very high expectations. Eventually, even though I enjoyed it, I can’t say I was really blown away by the whole thing. To be honest, I have seen it only once and a re-watch might change my opinion about this flick. I don’t know, like some other classics, I didn’t really connect with it and maybe I wasn’t in the right mood. The point is that I’m pretty sure that the movie was pretty shocking back then in 1969, but nowadays, there are so many movies much more violent than this one so I have become rather numb and uninterested by the genre. It is pretty much like ‘Staw Dogs’ (a movie I enjoyed more than this one), even though it developed some strong ideas, I still think it is rather dated. Anyway, for Peckinpah, this controversial movie would be his breakthrough and he will be forever remembered for his extremely violent features.

An average movie

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but I was really eager to watch it for quite some time, mostly because it was Will Smith's feature film debut. Eventually, Smith had a rather small part but the rest of the cast was actually pretty impressive  (Dermot Mulroney, Lara Flynn Boyle, S” read more
