An average movie

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since I always had a weak spot for Neil Jordan's work, I was quite eager to check it out. First of all, it was pretty neat that Jordan was making another vampire movie almost 20 years after 'Interview with the Vampire' and it was interesting th” read more

A very good movie

“To be honest, I had actually no idea what this movie was about but since there was a nice cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, I have to admit that I actually really enjoyed the damned thing, even if it took a while to really grab me. At first, it seemed to be dealing with a ” read more

The Battle of Algiers
Notes: The whole thing turned out be even better than I expected which is something that very rarely happens. Obviously, it was highly controversial in France where it was banned for many years which is not surprising since this movie was shot only 3 years after the actual independence of Algeria. This civil war lasted almost a decade and was very traumatizing for France so, to get such a bleak realistic depiction of this war so soon after this conflict was ended was probably too hard to swallow for the French audience. Anyway, first of all, as a history lesson, it is pretty amazing and, in my opinion, it should be actually compulsory viewings for all teenagers. On top of that, it is not only an incredibly valuable historical feature. Indeed, as a movie, it was just fascinating to behold and I would go as far saying that it was one of the most spellbinding thrillers I have ever seen.

Altered Carbon
What is it about? Set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored, a prisoner returns to life in a new body and must solve a mind-bending murder to win his freedom. My verdict: Even though this show had the potential to be really awesome and should/could have been the 'Game of Thrones' of the science-fiction genre, to be honest, it didn't really blow me away after all. I mean, it looked amazing, the world created was just fascinating, Joel Kinnaman was as usual so charismatic and I really liked this idea of this neo-noir tale taking place in the future. However, pretty much everything else was rather underwhelming, I'm afraid. Indeed, except for Kinnaman, the rest of the cast was nothing really impressive and, above all, the story was not really strong after all which was just a shame. Will I watch the following seasons? I did watch the 2nd season and, as I expected, Joel Kinnaman was really missed. Once again, it remains a fascinating world but the plot and characters involved are just not really entertaining. My best guess is that they won't come up with a 3rd season.

An average movie

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since I have a weak spot for Wes Craven's work, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, first of all, even though it had some creepy elements, especially its poster, to be honest, it wasn't really scary but it was still fairly entertaining. An” read more
