An average movie

“Since this movie had some rather weak ratings, I wasn't expecting much but since it had been years the last time I saw a movie directed by Eli Roth, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, eventually, I didn't care much about the damned thing. At least, it was nice that Eli Roth went for a  (” read more

A very good movie

“Since I kept hearing some really good things about this movie, I was really eager to check it out. Well, even though it is a rather tricky movie and even though I took me a while to get into the damned thing, I was eventually really impressed. First of all, even though I did laugh a few times, it wa” read more

Toni Erdmann
Original Title: 'Toni Erdmann' Directed by: Maren Ade Plot: A practical joking father tries to reconnect with his hard working daughter by creating an outrageous alter ego and posing as her CEO's life coach. Note: First of all, even though I did laugh a few times, it was definitely not a comedy but it was neither really a drama. Eventually, it was something really different and quite spellbinding to behold. Another thing I loved about this movie is that it didn’t provide some supposedly profound life lessons which was just so refreshing. Indeed, even if Winfried was obviously trying to get closer to his daughter, his method was actually rather toxic and you might wonder if what he did actually change anything after all. And, yet, I was still admiring this man who was at least trying to do something, even if it was something seriously weird. Eventually, Winfried probably did his best to raise his daughter, he managed to give her a high education resulting in a successful career and, yet, they have become seriously estranged in this process and it was so recognizable and rather heartbreaking.

I have to admit that I also liked how they displayed that someone making a lot of money with a supposedly high-social status might still have a rather lame job. A good movie

“To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since there was a decent cast involved and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it turned out to be a decent surprise after all. Indeed, the concept of what would happen if we would find” read more

A bad movie

“To be honest, I really had no idea what to expect from this flick but since it was the first feature film starring Keira Knightley, I thought I might as well check it out. Unfortunately, Knightley had only a very small part with only a couple of scenes and no dialogue whatsoever. Anyway, above all, ” read more

Blow-Up (1966)
Notes: To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. First of all, even though I’m quite knowleadgle about movies, I have to admit that I have still some work to do with Michelangelo Antonioni since I have seen only 5 of his movies. To make things even worse, 3 of them are among his worst work (‘Eros’, ‘Al di là delle nuvole’, ‘Zabriskie Point’). The weird thing is that I have actually always been interested by this director and this interest all came from this movie. Indeed, I thought it was just fascinating. Basically, it is like watching a very entertaining thriller but directed by a true artist and not your average Hollywood director. Indeed, the big difference between this masterpiece and your average thriller is that it doesn’t waste your time with some boring action scenes or some cheap theatrics, instead, you focus mostly on the psychological turmoil experienced by the main character and it was just spellbinding. Also, the fact that not everything was spoon-fed to the viewers was greatly appreciated.
