A good movie

“Since there was an interesting cast involved, I was quite eager to check this movie. First of all, it was pretty sad to see this movie just a year after Anton Yelchin passed away, especially since he was so good in this movie.  Felicity Jones was fine as well and, together, they made one of the cut” read more

American Graffiti
Notes: Weel, it is actually a rather realistic movie and, instead of having a straightforward plot, you just follow some American kids in the 60’s throught one night and, like any other teenagers, they didn’t do much actually. The funny thing is that 50 years later, they still do pretty much the same thing. Indeed, when I was younger, I used to go every year to Baltimore and, sometimes, the oldest son would ask me to go somewhere in his car and I remember while sitting in his car, I was really wondering where the hell we were going. We weren’t going anywhere, we were just driving around which was a very odd concept to me. Apparently, that was and still is their way to past their time in the week-ends. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, I still believe the characters were still not really engrossing and the way Ron Howard and Richard Dreyfuss’ characters suddenly switches their destinations felt rather artificial. Still, it remains a pretty good flick and it is definitely worth a look.

Pusher
Original Title: 'Pusher' Country: Denmark Directed by: Nicolas Winding Refn With: Mads Mikkelsen Plot: A drug pusher grows increasingly desperate after a botched deal leaves him with a large debt to a ruthless drug lord. Note: The scenes I enjoyed the most was when you get to see Frank simply hanging around with Tonny and his other acquaintances. This movie also reminded me of the time when I was a teenager spending most of my free time getting wasted on hashish and alcohol and, even if it might seem like a big waste, I actually had a great time. However, there was also a dark side and when one of my best buddies started to become a small time dealer and got some big debts, it even became really nasty. So, I could really identify myself with what happened in this movie. Still, from the moment Frank got involved with this drug deal, I pretty much knew everything what would happen afterwards and since it all became really predictable and rather generic, the whole thing was always watchable but it never became really amazing. Anyway, even if it was maybe not a masterpiece, it was still a really solid gritty crime thriller.

A good movie

“Nicolas Winding Refn is easily one of the most interesting directors at work nowadays so I was really eager to check his directing debut, especially since it has a really a solid reputation. Well, I wasn’t disappointed, that’s for sure. Eventually, the scenes I enjoyed the most was when you get ” read more

Papillon (1973)
Notes: I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since it was starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, I was really impressed. Indeed, it is definitely one of the best movies in this genre and, in fact, I do believe it is one of the best movies involving McQueen. I mean, sure, you could argue that the whole thing was barely original but I thought it was rather well made and it was definitely a compelling tale. Considering McQueen, he basically gave the same character he always played in all his movies, but, man, he does it so well, he was just really entertaining from the beginning until the end. Sadly, it would be his last great movie and the rest of his work would never be as compelling as it was here. Concerning Dustin Hoffman, his character was not really flashy but still entertaining nonetheless and while it was pretty much the beginning of the end for McQueen, Hoffman was at the top of his game at the time and the guy would pretty much rule the 70’s.

An average movie

“Since I have seen all the Harry Potter movies, of course, I had to check this spin-off/prequel at some point. First of all, you have to give J. K. Rowling some credit to manage to bring us back into this universe but with a really different approach. Indeed, with this movie, you go 50 years before H” read more
