An average movie

“I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I was quite eager to check it out again. I have noticed that, even though there are countless movies about cops, there are somehow not so many movies about firefighters and this movie must be by far the most famous one” read more

An average movie

“I wasn't really expecting much from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Halle Berry, I thought I might as well check it out. Apparently, if you would put aside the X-Men franchise, it was the first box-office hit scored by Herry during the last 10 years but, to be honest, it wasn't really go” read more

Double Indemnity
Note : It was a spellbinding film noir, easily one of the best movies in this genre, and it completely deserved its stellar reputation. What I loved the most was the simple and minimalistic way this story was told. Indeed, most of the movie was just about Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck only together in one room talking with each other and giving us some of the best dialogues ever written for a movie. Nowadays, they would give us some boring climax with some huge action scene and, of course, the usual tedious twist at the end but, here, the whole thing remained focused and sharp from the beginning and until the end.

A great classic

“Since I'm a massive movie buff, of course, I had to watch this movie at some point. Well, eventually, I wasn't disappointed, that's for sure. Ghost Town
Note : I'm so amazed by the low ratings for this movie. Sure, to have someone talking with some dead people is just a terrible gimmick but this movie was just so damned hilarious and both Ricky Gervais and Greg Kinnear were just pitch-perfect here. Better than : Ghost (a box-office success but such a cheesy movie)

Coming back to what Papuluna wrote, later on, in fact many years later, I did read the books as well and she was completely right. Indeed, in the book, Salander does really fall in love with Blomkvist

Young Frankenstein
Notes: With this movie, I was expecting to be blown away by some hilarious jokes but, eventually, even though I did enjoy the damned thing, I was just smiling from time to time but I was never really laughing out loud. So, I guess it was unfortunately not my type of humor. Still, it remains a very well made feature, probably the most impressive visually speaking delivered by Mel Brooks. Indeed, it really gave the feeling of those old horror movies from the 30's. Furthermore, it was actually a great idea to turn this classic story into a comedy since the plot was, when you think about it, actually completely preposterous and ridiculous. The cast was pretty good and even though Gene Wilder was supposed to be the big star, I above all enjoyed Igor who was stealing the show every time he was on the screen. Eventually, even though it didn't really blow me away, I did liked this movie and it is definitely a classic.
