Band of Brothers
Notes: I thought I might give it a try with my wife but, after the 1st episode, she said she didn't care for the whole thing at all so I ended up watching the damned thing on my own. To be honest, even though it was a really impressive TV-show, it was still missing something to completely blow me away to be honest. Still, it is a classic and pretty much a must-see.

A good movie

“Since I kept hearing some really great things about this movie, I was really eager to check it out and when I heard we would watch it with my film club, I was just thrilled. Indeed, it would be the first horror movie chosen for our film club so my expectations were really high. Unfortunately, even t” read more

An average movie

“For some rather obscure reason, it has been a movie that I wanted to watch for so many years. I mean, before watching the damned thing, I didn't even know that it was actually dealing with Henry Miller, one of my favorite writers. Well, eventually, even though the material was quite awesome and this” read more

Shoah (1985)
Note: To be honest, with its running time of more than 9 hours, it was slightly daunting and I wonder if it is really watchable in one sitting. In my case, I split it in 5 bits and it worked fine this way. Anyway, coming back to the movie itself, it wasn't a great movie, it turned out to be one of the best movies I have ever seen, no less than that. It is such a poweful and an important movie, I believe it should be a compulsory watch in school for all the teenagers. I mean, I have seen many movies dealing with WWII but even the great classics like 'Schindler's List' or 'The Pianist' don't come near the brutality displayed in this shattering documentary. Indeed, we have all heard about the holocaust but, with this movie, the total horror comes so close, following testimonies of the victims, the perpetrators and people who just happened to be around at the time.

A good movie

“Of course, I already saw this movie, in fact, I even saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released but I never saw it again afterwards so I was really eager to check it out again. The most interesting thing about this 2nd sequel is that it stands out so much from its predecessors. I” read more

Alien
Notes: To be honest, I have to admit that I always preffered 'Blade Runner' which is more challenging and interesting in my opinion but this movie is still really awesome. I mean, there are so many iconic landmarks here : Ripley, the Alien, the chest-burting scene, Ash,... Visually, it was really impressive and Ridley Scott managed to create a really oppressive mood which has been copied so many times afterwards. Obviously, back in those days, they didn't have any CGI at their disposal so it was pretty obvious that the alien was mostly a guy wearing a suit and some people might argue that it didn't look really convincing. On the other hand, as a result they used pretty much the same method used in 'Jaws' which was to show the monster as less as possible and, just like in 'Jaws', it made the whole thing even more tensed and spellbinding to behold.

An average movie

“To be honest, I didn't expect much from this movie but since I had a weak spot for Olivia Munn, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, ย it was pretty neat that for once she was playing one of the leads and she did look really gorgeous but I'm afraid it was still not enough to make this movie” read more

Get Out (2017)
chosen by Ria Notes: Since I kept hearing some really great things about this movie, I was really eager to check it out and when I heard we would watch it with our film club, I was just thrilled. Indeed, it would be the first time someone chose a horror movie so my expectations were really high. Unfortunately, even though it turned out to be a decent watch, I can't say I was really blown away by the damned thing though. I mean, to be honest, after watching this movie, you could be wondering why the critics loved it so much. Seriously, the structure was just really classic and predictable and, from the moment the mystery was revealed, as usual in this genre, the whole thing went just way over the top and, to be honest, I had a rather hard time to really care about what happened afterwards. Still, even though it didn't turn out to be such a masterpiece, it was still fairly entertaining. Indeed, Daniel Kaluuya gave a really a solid performance and even though his character went through some completely unbelievable nonsense, he kept it really grounded and I was always rooting for the guy. His buddy Rodney was also pure gold and, in fact, I wish they brought him as well in this demented journey. (Apr. 2017)
