The Tin Drum (1979)
Notes: Eventually, it must be one of the weirdest WWII dramas I have ever seen. I mean, half of it was a rather straightforward but still interesting telling of the rising of the Nazis in Poland at the time and the other half was basically some kind of surrealist tale about a strange boy with some unusual gifts. Well, I thought that this mix was just quite spellbinding to behold. Above all, the masterstroke was to find David Bennent to play the main character. Indeed, while watching the damned thing, I was never able to figure out how old he was, not only because of his appearance but also because of his acting skills which were just as convincing if he would have been a young boy, a teenager or an adult. Eventually, I have discovered that he was not even 13 years old at the time which is just mind-blowing considering the depth of his performance.

A classic

“Of course, I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I have it on DVD, I was really eager to check it out again. In fact, I remember it very well when it was released in France. Indeed, it was a huge critical and commercial success, everybody was talking about this flick to th” read more

Notes: Since I kept hearing some interesting things about this flick (for example, it was apparently one of Stanley Kubrick's favorite movies), I was really curious about the damned thing and I was quite eager to check it out. First of all, by now, I have seen many movies starring Steve Martin (almost 30 features) but, to be honest, most of them turned out be actually rather worthless. However, the guy still made a few classics during his career and this flick was apparently one of them . Well, eventually, after I finally watched this movie, I turned out to be a decent watch but I can’t say I was really blown away by the whole thing though. I mean, I thought it was a good movie and there were definitely some funny scenes here and there but, still, I can't say it was really hilarious. Eventually, I guess it all depends if you like absurd humor or not.

An average movie

“Since I'm big fan of Jacques Audiard and since this movie won the Golden Palm at the Cannes film festival, I was really eager to check it out. I remember that, at the time, it was a rather controversial win since many didn't expect this movie to get this prize, especially since it was competing agai” read more

An average movie

“To be honest, I wasn't  expecting much from this flick but since I always had a weak spot for Jason Bateman, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, eventually, it turned out to be rather lame, I'm afraid. I mean, identity theft is a rather fascinating subject and I'm rather surprised that th” read more

A classic

“Of course, I already saw this movie but since it was ages ago, maybe 20 years ago, I was really eager to check it out again. Obviously, it has become since then a major cult-classic but, to be honest, even though I did like it, I have never been a really huge fan and, to be honest, this re-watch did” read more

“To be honest, I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since there was a pretty cool cast involved, I was quite eager to check it out.
