Crimson Peak
Cast : Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska What was it about? Young author Edith Cushing discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be. My two cents: Following 'Pacific Rim' which was decent but slightly underwhelming, fortunately, it didn’t take Guillermo del Toro so long to come up with a new directing effort and this new project seemed to be some perfect material for him. Indeed, he really delivered a high-class Gothic horror tale with some impressive sets, some gorgeous costumes, some great special effects and a very strong cast. And yet, the whole thing still failed to really impress me. Basically, at the end of the day, the story wasn't really strong in my opinion. Indeed, the pacing is really sluggish and, very soon, it was pretty obvious what the hell was going on and, unfortunately, I can’t say I really cared about the characters and what they were going through. My rating: 06/10 Check the full review

“Nowadays, Daniel Craig has been hailed as a great James Bond. Indeed, all of his movies have been really successful at the box-office and at least 2 of them are considered as major classics in this franchise (‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Skyfall’). It is all well and quite deserved but, as a result,” read more

“I already saw this movie but, since it was ages ago, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, I was surprised by how little I actually remembered the damned thing so it was definitely worth watching it again after all these years. On top of that, I really enjoyed it a lot, much more than ” read more

“I have to admit it, I always had a weak spot for romantic-comedies but it is a real shame that most of the movies in this genre are in fact terribly generic and underwhelming. Fortunately, there are a few exceptions out there and this movie was definitely one of them. First of all, even though I hav” read more

Saving Private Ryan
Notes: In my opinion, it is actually the most overrated movie directed by Steven Spielberg. To makes things clear, of course, the movie is not awful, absolutely not. In fact, the opening is one of the best introductions I have ever seen. This is what war is about, just a big slaughter party. But then, it was just the beginning and the rest of the movie had nothing to with this great intro. It is a little bit like 'Titanic'. In 'Titanic, even though the last 45 minutes are really impressive, they have actually nothing to do with the rest of the movie which is basically a rather basic love story. Here, you have a similar situation. You start up with the best war scene ever made but, then, the rest of the movie is dealing with something entirely different. Basically, they send a whole platoon to save 1 guy... Do you really believe Obama or (even better) W. Bush would do such a thing ? I don't. And even if they did, it doesn't make the story more interesting to me. Basically, in my opinion, it is just some kind of Disney version of 'Apocalypse Now' and it just didn't match with the greatest depiction of the D-Day. Eventually, of course, it is not a bad movie, the directing and acting are really solid and it is worth a look but I really don't see why it is such a great movie.

“I wasn’t really aware that this movie was so obscure. Indeed, I’m in fact the only one who has rated it on this website (apparently, only 500 people has rated it on IMDb which is also a really low figure). Anyway, I had no idea what to expect from the damned thing but since it was starring Nasta” read more

Notes: I remember it very well when this movie was released. Indeed, I didn’t see it in the movie theater but, very quickly, it became a cult-classic so I was definitely eager to check the damned thing. Anyway, eventually, even though I thought it was indeed a pretty a cool movie, to be honest, I can’t say I was completely blown away by the whole thing. I mean, sure, it was really entertaining, no doubt about it, but I don’t think it was really so clever after all. Still, Tom Tykwer definitely displayed some skills here and he eventually would be one of the most interesting directors at work nowadays and it is thanks to this movie that I discovered him. And even though it is not a masterpiece, it is still a very entertaining and enjoyable piece.

“To be honest, I never really cared about Tupac Shakur, when he was alive or after his death, but I have to admit that the guy definitely displayed some potential in this movie. Basically, it is a rather obscure feature that pretty much everyone forgot about. Obviously, it was a rather straightforwar” read more
