(A review of
Together)
Iâm not sure if you have noticed but I tend to be really obsessive about my movie watching and when I dig a directorâs work, I try to watch all his movies and Lukas Moodysson is definitely one of those directors. Indeed, I was really impressed by 'Fucking Amal' and even more by 'Lilya Forever' so I was really curious to see this other flick directed by Lukas Moodysson. To be honest, this movie never reached the level of the others I mentioned just before but it was still an interesting study of a community living in Sweden during the 70's. Personally, I have always been intrigued by this way of life and I think the movie was quite successful in portraying it in a realistic way, showing its downside and its advantage. Furthermore, the directing was very good and the actors all delivered some good performances. In my opinion, even though the material was interesting, there was still something missing to make it truly spellbinding to watch but thanks to Moodyssonâs sober directing, it was still a nice watch. To conclude, even though this movie is probably not as famous or as good as Moodysson's previous work but it was still a fine picture and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

(A review of
Man of the House)
Nowadays, I have Netflix and Popcorn and not only I have since then an endless selection or movies to choose from but, as a result, I have become slightly more picky regarding the movies I watch. Before, I used to watch pretty much anything as long as it was starring one or two actors I was interested in and, as a result, I would sometimes end up watching some really obscure features. This movie was a perfect example and the only reason I watched it was because it was featuring Tommy Lee Jones. Indeed, I really like this actor and he was the only reason why I decided to check this flick. In fact, the guy basically always plays the same part in most of his movies, the no-nonsense tough cop, but I always find him entertaining. Unfortunately, even though his performance was, as usual, not bad at all, the movie itself was rather boring and uninteresting. Basically, it was some typical fish-out-of-water comedy but the whole thing was just not funny and there were many awkward scenes involving some middle aged guys drooling on some much younger cheerleaders. Anyway, it was a really average flick and it is not really worth a look at all.

(A review of
Blood and Wine)
I wasnât sure what to expect from this flick but since there was a really cool cast, I really wanted to check it out. First of all, nowadays, Jennifer Lopez has a rather bad reputation as an actress since she only stars in very average flicks but at the start of her acting career, she made some rather interesting movies and this is definitely one of them. To be honest, it is actually not really thanks to her but above all thanks to Jack Nicholson and Michael Caine that I really enjoyed this flick. I mean, I thought they were both, as usual, really awesome and it was just a real treat to see them together on the screen. Furthermore, the story was maybe not really original but it was well written and entertaining enough and it is also interesting to note that this movie was directed by Bob Rafelson, the same guy who gave Jack Nicholson his breakthrough with âFive Easy Piecesâ almost 30 years before. On the downside, as usual, I didnât care much more for Stephen Dorff who might not be one of the worst actors I have ever seen but certainly one of the most uninspiring. To conclude, in spite of its flaws, in spite of the fact that it is nothing really mind-blowing, I actually liked the damned thing and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

(A review of
The Accidental Husband)
Since this movie had a terrible reputation, obviously, I had some low expectactions but since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. First of all, while I was watching this movie, I was thinking that Uma Thurman actually had a very similar career to Nicolas Cage and it wasnât a compliment. Indeed, even though she shows up sometimes in something really awesome, she then has to get involved in at least 6 major turkeys. Well, this movie won't belong to one of her masterpieces, thatâs for sure, in fact, it might even be one of her worst movies. Seriously, it is actually a wonder how they managed to make such as a bad movie with such a good cast (Uma Thurman, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Colin Firth, Sam Shepard, Isabella Rossellini). Indeed, the story was just so bad and the whole thing was basically a succession of ridiculous and unfunny scenes. Eventually, the main issue was that Uma Thurman's character was just so obnoxious and it was rather pathetic that they tried to make us believe that those 2 characters would fall in love with her. Anyway, to conclude, it was a bad movie and you should pretty much avoid it.

(A review of
Mystery, Alaska)
I wasn't expecting much from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Russell Crowe, I thought I might as well give it a try. To start with, during most of the 90âs and 00âs, Jay Roach was above all involved in two massive comic franchises, âAustin Powersâ and âMeet the Parentsâ, but apparently, he still found the time to make this rather obscure comedy. Like I said before, I had some rather low expectations concerning this flick but, eventually, I must admit it, the whole thing wasn't that bad at all after all. Of course, the story was nothing original and completely predictable but I thought it was entertaining enough. Furthermore, it was quite refreshing to see Russell Crowe trying something else, in this case, a comedy and I thought he pulled it off quite well. The main issue I had was the total lack of ambition displayed by the makers. I mean, they took the most basic blueprint about sports movie and just followed the formula without adding one single thing really original or out-of the-box. Still, to conclude, even though it is nothing mind-blowing whatsoever, it is actually a decent comedy and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are looking for a brainless but entertaining sport comedy.

(A review of
Love N' Dancing)
Nowadays, I have Netflix and Popcorn and not only I have since then an endless selection or movies to choose from but, as a result, I have become slightly more picky regarding the movies I watch. Before that, I used to watch pretty much anything as long as it was starring one or two actors I was interested in and, as a result, I would sometimes end up watching some really obscure features. This movie was a perfect example and the only reason I watched it was because it was starring Amy Smart. Indeed, since I have a weak spot for this actress, I thought I should check this one out. My gosh... What a terrible movie! Basically, it was some very bad remake of âDirty Dancingâ which wasnât already such a great movie in my opinion. At least, I have to admit that the dancing sequences were in fact pretty cool but the story was just so weak, the dialogues were just laughable and the performances by the whole cast were very poor. Billy Zane was the only one who managed to be watchable but his character was such a dick, it made it impossible to root for him. Anyway, to conclude, the whole thing was just pretty bad and you should definitely avoid it.

(A review of
Children of Paradise (1945))
Since it is considered one of the greatest classics of the French cinema, of course, I was really eager to check it out and eventually, I wasnât disappointed, thatâs for sure. Indeed, first of all, you have to check the great people who were involved in this production (it was directed by Marcel CarnĂ© and written by French poet Jacques PrĂ©vert). When you dig into its history, it is even more amazing as you think that they managed to make this flick during the height of the Nazi occupation and, apparently, it seems that many members of the resistance were actually involved in this production. I have to admit, it is a rather long feature but, with some gorgeous black and white cinematography, some really impressive actors, the whole thing was still pretty damned mesmerizing. By now, I have seen my share of movies directed by Marcel CarnĂ© and this must be the most prestigious one (not sure if it is my favorite though since I really loved âDrĂŽle de Drameâ, I guess I would need to re-watch both but it is definitely a close call). To conclude, it is indeed a great classic, I loved it and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in French movies.

(A review of
Julie & Julia)
Basically, since Meryl Streep is my favorite actress, I really had to watch this flick. To be honest, even though Streep was giving a solid performance as usual, I thought that Julia Child was actually a really caricatural character and I thought she was even rather annoying but then later on, she grew on me and I especially enjoyed the beautiful relationship she had with her husband. On the other hand, I have never been really crazy about Amy Adams. Indeed, she always plays some rather annoying and hysterical characters and here, once again, even though she toned it down a little bit, her character was was once again rather hysterical. Still, I have to admit that I really enjoyed the blogging though. Indeed, it actually reminded me when I started on Listal. Back then, I was making lists after lists but wouldn't get any votes or comments but then, I got my first vote and comment and now I'm ranked 27! I even have a list with more than 400 000 views ([Link removed - login to see])! Still, this flick was  rather flawed though. In my opinion, the main issue with this movie was that both stories were interesting and, even though it might have seemed like a good idea to combine them, it didn't really work and the end-result was even rather frustrating. Evenually, they ended up with two rather half-baked stories (pun intended). Anyway, to conclude, it was nothing great but I still enjoyed it and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

(A review of
Paranoid Park)
Since Iâm a big fan of Gus van Sant, I was quite eager to check this flick. Indeed, even though his most recent movies have all been rather disappointing (âThe Sea of Treesâ, âPromised Landâ, âRestlessâ), I still think that Gus Van Sant is a very interesting director. In fact, I have noticed that he usually alternates mainstream and experimental projects and this flick definitely belonged to the second group. Basically, you either enjoy those movies or you donât since they are really slow paced and without a real plot. Well, I do enjoy those flicks. In this case, the first shot really reminded me of Hitchcock with this ominous music and, when I learned about the story, the reference was then quite obvious. Basically, this movie was a mix of, indeed, Hitchcock, 'Crime & Punishment' and some teenage skaters. I thought the whole thing was really beautifully shot and I really enjoyed the performances by the non-professional cast. Still, I have to admit that the end was not really great though but it really fit the rest of the movie in my opinion. Anyway, to conclude, even though it was maybe nothing really groundbreaking, I thought it was pretty good and I think it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Gus Van Sant's work.

(A review of
Must Love Dogs)
Honestly, with a title like this, you pretty know what you will get even before watching this flick. I guess, my wife would have been more attracted to it than me since it is because of her that we own right now 5 dogs but anyway, since I have a weak spot for Diane Lane, I still wanted to check this flick. To be honest, he doesn't really have a huge range as an actress and she actually always plays the same character but she does it very well and she is always charismatic. This time, she was working with John Cusack on a romantic-comedy so I thought it could be pretty good but, unfortunately, the end result was rather underwhelming. I mean, come on, the whole routine of the friends and family putting her on a dating site without her approval but of course, she still falls in love with the guy anyway, is just so old, boring, predictable and completely overdone at this point. To conclude, even though the actors were all quite nice, charming and all the story was unfortunately not really entertaining whatsoever and the whole thing is eventually not really worth a look, even if you like the genre.
