(A review of
Maybe Baby)
I wasnāt sure what to expect from this flick and, to be honest, I watched it mostly because Emma Thompson was involved. Eventually, she had actually a very small part in it so I donāt think she was actually a good reason to watch this flick. In fact, the main character was played by Hugh Laurie who was at the time not really famous but it would all change thanks to āHouseā. To be honest, even though I have nothing against Hugh Laurie, I canāt say I'm really a big fan of him but at least, he had some good chemistry with the charming Joely Richardson. At the end of the day, I thought that this romantic-comedy was quite cute, I always had a weak spot for the genre and the story was not bad. Still, it was nothing really mind-blowing and the whole thing was very predictable. The main issue is that while the characters felt quite genuine and the actors delivered some solid performances, the plot was in fact rather weak preventing the whole thing from becoming truly remarkable. To conclude, I thought it was still a decent and fairly entertaining romantic-comedy and if you are a huge Hugh Laurie fan, it is actually worth a look.

(A review of
Lady in the Water)
Before watching this flick, I heard so many bad things about it, so I can't say I was really anxious to see it but still, I was curious. Oh boy! I wasn't disappointed... It is easily the worst movie directed by Shyamalan, it is even worse than āThe Last Airbenderā in my opinion. I have to be honest, the directing and acting were not that bad in fact but the story was so amazingly... terrible! Try to picture this. You make up a bedtime story for your kids, of course, they love it but actually it is nothing great but your kids love it and that's the most important thing, right? No, wrong! You become a famous movie director and you waste 75 000 000 dollars (that's the actual budget) because you are full of yourself... The best thing is that, for once, at the end, there was no twist this time, which was actually a twist for a Shyamalan movie , when you think about it, I know it's getting a little bit confusing here... Anyway, you wait the whole thing hoping, thinking "he is going to throw his usual twist and the whole thing would be ...OK?!?" but no, at the end, there is nothing, except laughter from your side.... Anyway, it is pretty bad and I don't see why you should watch it.

(A review of
Coraline)
Since Iām a huge fan of āThe Nightmare before Christmasā, I was quite eager to check this flick and I had some rather huge expectations before watching it. Eventually, even though I did like it, I was still a little bit disappointed by the whole thing. Of course, the stop motion animation really looked gorgeous once again (it didnāt see it in 3D though) but, even though the story was decent, it was never as fascinating as āThe Nightmare before Christmasā was. Seriously, at the end of the day, even thought it was fairly entertaining, I canāt say I really cared about the main character or what she was going through. In my opinion, it was like with āParaNormanā, another supposedly dark animated feature, the makers really want us to believe that the whole thing is really edgy but I wasnāt really convinced, Iām afraid. I mean, with āThe Nightmare before Christmasā, I was just mesmerized by this demented world and I loved every single one of those weird characters but I never had such a connection with this story. Still, to conclude, even though I think it is slightly overrated, it remains still a very well made animated feature and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

(A review of
Snakes on a Plane)
Honestly, I wasnāt sure what to expect from this flick but since I always had a weak spot for Samuel L. Jackson, I thought I should check it out. I remember it very well, before it came out, there was this huge hype about this flick on the internet. To be honest, I don't really see why... I mean, how can you expect a movie involving a plane, a bunch of snakes and Samuel L. Jackson to be great? Thatās actually the whole issue here. I mean, sure, it all sounded pretty bad-ass when you read about it but, eventually, it was not such a great idea after all. In my opinion, the whole thing was basically just a marketing stunt and thatās where they put all their effort, to spread the word on the net about this weird flick. Eventually, they spent more time on this marketing strategy than on creating the movie itself so you get some rather weak performances, a really pedestrian plot and a rather boring flick in the end. Anyway, the end result was still watchable but not much more than that, Iām afraid. To conclude, it is a typical case of a movie built up on hype and nothing else and I donāt think it is really worth a look.

(A review of
House of D)
Honestly, I wasnāt sure what to expect from this flick but since I have a weak spot for Robin Williams, I thought I might as well check it out. Basically, like many other actors before him, David Duchovny felt compelled to direct his own movie so he made this really obscure flick. At the time, it was rather poorly received and, indeed, it wasn't really original, but still I thought it was not bad at all. Indeed, I thought David Duchovny was quite competent as a director, all the actors involved gave some good perfomances and the story was entertaining enough. The point is that Duchovny managed to create some interesting characters and they made the whole thing compelling to watch but the plot was not reallly strong though. Basically, Duchovny tries really hard to convince us that the whole thing is really deep but it was not really persuasive, Iām afraid. Since then, Duchovny hasnāt directed another feature film so Iām not sure if he really enjoyed the whole experience. Anyway, to conclude, all in all, even though it is nothing really amazing, it was not too bad for a directing debut, I thought it was a decent periode drama and I think is actually worth a look.

(A review of
Terminator Salvation)
First of all, even though this movie has a rather lame reputation, I actually think it is easily, obviously after ' Terminator 2, the most interesting sequel in this franchise. Indeed, there were actually some good stuff in this flick. First of all, it was a really good idea to move the story in the future and remove the time travelling gimmick. Furthermore, the whole thing looked very good and there were some cool action scenes. And finally, there was a pretty neat cast (Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood, Helena Bonham Carter, Anton Yelchin, Bryce Dallas Howard). Unfortunately, I have to admit it, not everything did work though. Ā Indeed, the main issue was that the story was rather confusing and it didn't really make much sense. In fact, it is not really a surprise because each time there is a Terminator flick, the story becomes more and more illogical and this last installment was really a mess, even after removing the time travelling concept. The other thing that really bothered me were the dialogues as they were rather lame and they made me even laugh a couple of times which was obviously not the intention. Anyway, to conclude, even though they eventually failed because they focused way too much on the action scenes and not enough on the story and the characters, I still think it was an interesting attempt to try something really different with this franchise and I think it is worth a look.Ā

(A review of
Joe Kidd)
Since I have always been a big fan of Clint Eastwoodās good old Westerns, I thought I might as well check this one out. Well, even though I really wanted to like this movie, eventually, it turned out to be a decent watch but not much more than that, Iām afraid. I mean,Ā Clint Eastwood was awesome and I thought it was quite interesting that the 'bad guys', the Mexican farmers, were actually not so bad at all. Unfortunately, the story was still rather poorly written in my opinion. For example, at first, Joe Kidd didnāt want to to get involved but, within five minutes, they managed to find some bogus excuse for him to take part in the proceedings. This has become, by now, a rather old and tired gimmick and, in this case, it was even more poorly handled as, within the next 5 minutes, the guy was actually already regretting his decision to get involved after all! Furthermore, the ending was also rather weak. Anyway, to conclude, even though the whole thing had some potential, at the end of the day, it was still a rather average Western but I think it is still worth a look though, especially if you like the genre.Ā

(A review of
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides)
In 2017, they would once again come up with a 5th instalment for this franchise but, to be honest , I really wonder if it will be really successful, especially since all the recent movies starring Johnny Depp turned to be some massive flops. In fact, his last massive hit was actually this 4th installment so, even though these sequels (even āDead Man's Chestā and āAt World's Endā) were all rather misguided and, it made sense that they would keep making those movies since they were all terribly successful at the box-office. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, to be honest, I thought it was actually rather weak. I mean, sure, the fountain of youth was actually a pretty cool idea but, unfortunately, the story was rather poorly written in my opinion. First of all, without including Jack Sparrow, there were also 3 different groups of people looking for thisĀ fountain (the Spaniards, Barbossa and Blackbeard) which was just too much. Furthermore, many people complained that Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann were annoying and boring but their replacement (the priest and the mermaid) were actually even worse. Finally, I thought that even though she looked nice, Penelope Cruz didn't really convince me. Eventually, it was actually thanks to Johnny Depp that this movie didn't become really average. Indeed, as usual, he really shined and made the whole thing rather watchable but I wonder if it will work a 5th time around. Anyway, to conclude, even though the whole thing felt like a really unnecessary sequel, I guess it is still worth a look but only if you really like the genre.Ā

(A review of
Little Man)
Obviously, I didn't expect much from this flick but, somehow, I still ended up watching the damned thing. Basically, it was really one of those cases when you check a movie just to see if it is as bad as everyone says. Well, eventually, I came to the conclusion that this flick really deserved its bad reputation. Indeed, the original concept was just completely moronic and some (most of them?) jokes were just really tasteless. I mean, from the start, the whole concept sounded like a really terrible idea and they didn't manage to make it more interesting or entertaining than it sounded. Finally, and that was probably the biggest problem, the whole thing was just not funny at all. I mean, you basically had a stupid premise with some stupid characters getting involved with some stupid jokes so the end-result was just rather pathetic. Eventually, more than 5 years later, I would finally watch 'White Chicks' which turned out to be quite terrible as well and I wouldn't be able to tell you which movie was the worse one between these 2. Anyway, to conclude, it was pretty bad so I would advise you to stay away from this and don't waste your time like I did...

(A review of
Sky High)
To be honest, I didnāt expect much from the damned thing but since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. In fact, a few weeks ago, I just saw a very similar flick called āZoomā which was released a year later after this movie. Apparently, āSky Highā was the one with the better reputation (in fact, some fans argued that it really deserved a sequel) but even though I thought it was indeed slightly better, I thought it was still pretty weak though and I didnāt care much for the damned thing. At least, instead of the awfull Tim Allen, they gave the always awesome Kurt Russell. However, even with Kurt Russell, the whole thing still remained pretty average. First of all, for this movie, the lead was played by Michael Angarano who was just really not charismatic enough. Eventually, 10 years later, the guy would show up in āThe Knickā, the amazing TV-show directed by Steven Soderbergh, and I thought he was really good this time around. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, to conclude, even though the whole thing had some potential, I was still rather bored during the whole thing and I donāt think it is really worth a look.Ā
