(A review of
Presumed Innocent)
To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. Anyway, even though I tend to be rather critical towards thrillers, I have to admit that I really loved this movie. I mean, sure, it is probably not one of the best movies in this genre but, in my opinion, it is actually pretty much flawless. Indeed, how the tension was built up, how the main character was completely powerless and sees his life going down the drain... In fact, I have never though of it before but the plot is actually pretty similar to āThe Fugitiveā. Indeed, you have Harrison Ford was once again framed for the murder of a woman and he has to manage somehow to prove his innocence. Pretty much like with āThe Fugitiveā, I have to admit that the climax was not perfect but, for once, it didnāt really bother me and the whole thing was more about building up the tension and the mesmerizing mood. Furthermore, Harrison Ford who was at the top of his game at the time was just perfect in this part. To conclude, it is a rather forgotten gem but I think it is definitely worth a look.

(A review of
The Mosquito Coast)
Since I'm a huge fan of Harrison Ford, I definitely had to watch this movie at some point. It was the second time in a row that Ford worked with Peter Weir. Indeed, just a year before, they released ' Witness' which was critically lauded and a box-office success. This flick didn't become such a big hit, it has even become one of the more obscure movies starring Harrison Ford and there is actually a lot of discussion around this flick. Some think it's really bad (Roger Ebert for example), some other think it is really good. Personally, I'm part of the second group and I think it is one of the best perfomances by Harrison Ford. Indeed, this time, he portrays a really messed up guy, in my opinion, one of the most balanced characters he has ever portrayed, and I thought it was quite fascinating to watch. This guy is, at the same time, really intelligent but he can be also a really a-hole especially when you see how he treats his family. Personally, I have always been fascinated by such deeply flawed characters but, I guess, many viewers found him really despicable (which I can understand) and therefore didn't care for the movie itself. To conclude, in my opinion, it is a rather forgotten and underrated gem but I think it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Harrison Ford's work.

(A review of
The Tailor of Panama)
Honestly, it has been a while since I have seen this movie but I really loved it at the time and I think it has been terribly overlooked through the years (pretty much like āThe Matadorā, another brilliant movie starring Brosnan which is really underrated in my opinion). Indeed, Pierce Brosnan obviously became very famous thanks to James Bond but if you wonder if he is able to actually act, you should definitely check this movie. Indeed, even though Brosnan was once again playing a spy, it was definitely a different kind of spy this time and the end-result was quite spellbinding to behold. Geoffrey Rush, another dependable actor, was also really good and, together, they made for a great sleazy and murky duo. To top the cast, you had Jamie Lee Curtis to play the femme fatale between those 2 guys and she was much more interesting than the usual bimbos that you might get instead. Eventually, I thought it was a fascinating story with some very good directing, in fact I even think it might be John Boormanās best movie and it was even better than āPoint Blankā, āDeliveranceā or āExcaliburā. To conclude, I think it is really an underrated gem and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

(A review of
Shattered)
As you may have noticed, I tend to be really critical concerning thrillers in general. Indeed, even though many are entertaining, the modern thrillers tend to really get on my nerves with their ridiculous plots and annoying twists. However, there are a few exceptions and this movie is definitely one of them. Indeed, I saw this flick something like 20 years ago and, back then, I was really blown away by the whole thing. It is rather surprising because there is actually a completely over-the-top story and a preposterous twist (the very things I usually despise in your typical thriller) but, somehow, this time, I found it completely captivating and it used to be actually one of my favorite movies. Back then, I had never seen a thriller with such unbelievable twits and it really blew me away. Imagine if Hitchcok made a movie in the 90's, it might have looked like this one... Back then, the Italian actress Greta Scacchi was a hot item in Hollywood and was just mesmerizing in this flick. Tom Berenger was also at the pick of his career and did a pretty good job too. The whole thing was also directed by Wolfgang Petersen which never made a similar flick before or after in his career. To conclude, in my opinion, it is a forgotten and underrated gem and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.

(A review of
Stealing Sinatra)
I really didnāt know before watching this movie but it is actually a seriously obscure movie. Indeed, not even 600 people have rated it on IMDb which is really low and, after 5 long years, Iām still the only one who has rated the damned thing on this website. To be honest, I had no idea what to expect from the damned thing but since I always had a weak spot for William H. Macy, I thought I might as well check it out. Eventually, as usual,Ā Macy was pretty good and, on top of that, I thought that the story was actually pretty interesting. Eventually, the main problem with this movie was the way they handled this trio of kidnappers. Indeed, they were basically a bunch of pathetic losers what might have seemed hilarious for the makers but, for the viewers, it became pretty much impossible to root for them. Concerning Ron Underwood, he would direct this movie after āThe Adventures of Pluto Nashā and before āIn the Mixā, 2 movies which were arguably some of the worse released in the 00ās and he hasnāt released another directing effort ever since. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, in spite of its flaws, I thought it was a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre.Ā

(A review of
War, Inc.)
Even though this movie didnāt get much love when it was released, there was a very intriguing cast (John Cusack, Hilary Duff, Marisa Tomei, Joan Cusack, Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley) and it was the main reason why I wanted to check this flick. Eventually, there were some good stuff and some not so good stuff in this movie. First of all, I really liked the concept a lot, the satirical tone was pretty awesome and John Cusack really nailed his perfomance. There were also some really funny scenes. But then there were also enough stuff that just didn't work. For example, why on Earth was Marisa Tomei playing her character so straight when everybody was so over-the-top ?!? I always had a weak spot for Tomei but I had the feeling that she had just landed Ā in the wrong movie. Furthermore, some jokes were just not funny and, above all, it seems that the makers didn't really know if the movie was supposed to be a drama or a comedy. Itās too bad because it really had some potential. Still, the whole thing was intriguing and entertaining enough and I think it is worth a look, especially if you are interested in John Cusack's work.

(A review of
Babylon A.D.)
What the hell happened to Mathieu Kassovitz? After āLa Haineā, everyone expected him to become one of the most interesting directors of his generation but his career turned out to be rather underwhelming. This movie is a perfect example. Indeed, it was apparently a labor of love for Kassovitz and he spent 5 years developing this comic-book adaptation. Unfortunately, the whole thing turned to a nightmare for Kassovitz who was apparently never allowed to shot the movie as he planned to do as the studio was apparently constantly interfering during the shooting and also during the post-production resulting in a visually interesting movie with a rather boring plot. Itās too bad because Vin Diesel gave here one of his best performances (apparently, Kassovitz couldnāt stand working with him) and the mood of the whole movie was pretty cool. Unfortunately, the story was nothing original and didnāt grab me at all, MĆ©lanie Thierry looked fine but all, seriously, all her lines were just terrible... Eventually, the whole thing was just a wasted opportunity and Matthieu Kassovitz completely discarded this movie when it was released.Ā To conclude, I wonder if the talented French director will ever recover from this mess but even though it could have been awesome, the end-result was really disappointing and I donāt think it is really worth a look.Ā

(A review of
Judge Dredd)
Even though I heard only bad things about this flick, since I try to watch all the movies starring Sylvester Stallone, I thought I should give it a try. Honestly, in my opinion, this movie actually had a huge potential and the whole thing could have been really awesome. I mean, they had a badass character, to cast Stallone as Judge Dredd was just brilliant and there was a nice dark and gritty mood provided by this comic-book ...Unfortunately, it still didn't work out. Indeed, the whole thing was disappointing and mostly for 2 reasons. First of all, they toned down the material (bye bye badassery...) and secondly, where was the f*cking mask ?!? Stallone has the mask on maybe 10 minutes for the whole movie while it is one of the trademarks of the character... As a result, even though it was called āJudge Dreddā, it felt like something entirely different. Eventually, almost 20 years later, they tried to make another movie called āDreddā with Karl Urban in the starring role with this comic-book character and even though it wasnāt a box-office hit, it was actually rather well received so I will definitely check it out when I get the opportunity. To conclude, this version with Stallone was not really bad and there were actually some good things about it but the end-result was still rather disappointing and eventually, it is not really worth a look, even if you are a die-hard fan of Sylvester Stallone.

(A review of
Street Fighter)
I remember it very well, before this movie came out, there was a huge buzz about this flick. Indeed, back in those days, I was a huge gamer and 'Street Fighter II' was one of the most popular games at the time and it had became a huge pop phenomenom. In the gaming community, this movie was highly awaited. Indeed, the movie adapations of video-games were really new at the time and even though 'Super Mario Bros' was a huge flop, many believed that with this 2nd video game adaptation, there was some potential to make something quite awesome. Since I was and still am a big Street Fighter fan, I had to see this flick in the movie theater... What a terrible experience! It was easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen... Luckilly, I was not the only one thinking that way so there was no sequel for this pile of horsesh*t.... The whole thing was just bad on every level. At first, it seemed pretty simple, they could just have made a straight-up fighting tournament Ć la 'Enter the Dragon' but instead it was just very unfaitful to the source material. Basically, it is a piece of garbage and you should avoid it, even if you love the video game like I do.

(A review of
Howard the Duck)
Obviously, I wasnāt expecting much from this flick but I still wanted to check out if it was really so bad. Eventually, it definitely deserved its poor reputation. The main issue is that the whole concept was just seriously misguided. I mean, to make a live-action feature about some anthropomorphic duck was probably one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. Some people might argue that it could be cool nowadays with some modern CGI special-effects but I highly doubt it. Seriously, what was George Lucas thinking with this piece of sh*t ?!? I'm pretty sure he needed some dough and thought he found his new cash cow. No way, this is maybe the worst comic-book adaptation ever... In fact, this movie was the first attemp of a theatrical release of a Marvel character since 1944 with āCaptain Americaā. Basically, it pretty much killed this market and it took Marvel several decades to properly launch their characters pretty much ruling the box-office in the process. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, the story was rather moronic, the main character was completely obnoxious and, indeed, the special effects did look cheap, something you wouldn't expect from a movie produced by George Lucas. To conclude, just avoid it.
