Notes: Well, even though this movie seems to be loved by Bergman fans, to be honest, I really had a hard time to care about the damned thing. Indeed, it was just so cold and cerebral and I really didn't connect at all with this movie which was rather odd because I usually have a weak spot for smart movies but, I guess, this one was just too smart for me, I'm afraid. Basically, there was no plot and, instead, Bergman focused on 4 characters but, even though they were interesting, they were never fascinating. In fact, they were seriously neurotic and even slightly pathetic. To make it even more obscure and difficult to follow, except for Anna who obviously went through some massively traumatic experience, there was no explanation provided to explain the behavior of the other 3 characters which made it rather difficult to care about who they have become and what they were going through. Instead, the movies stopped 4 times to allow the actors to actually tell what they thought about their respective characters but, in my opinion, it was a rather pretentious gimmick. 3 years, 8 months ago

Notes: Well, even though I thought it was pretty neat when I was a kid, to be honest, I don't think it did grow old very well. I mean, it is a really solid epic Western with a really uplifting soundtrack but the damned thing is also so sweet and romantic, I almost feels like a classic Disney family feature. Indeed, even though it was a Revisionist Western and even though it did reverse the usual stereotypes in this genre, it was nonetheless still seriously stereotypical. Basically, this time around, the white people were all described as mean, ignorant and violent, while all the Indians were described as gentle, wise and peaceful. But the best of them would be eventually John Dunbar who was at first the best white man around and then, also the best Indian around. I mean, the guy was something, he was handsome, charming, good with the animals and kids,... Even during the buffalo hunting scene, he was again the very best around, beating the Indians at their own ancestral tradition. The weird thing was that the guy was in fact a soldier who left his post and duty to live with the Indians. He even gave them all the guns he had. Can you imagine if, nowadays, an American soldier in Irak would go AWOL to go living with the locals as a Muslim giving them also a whole stash of weapons in the process? What was it about?
Billie Eilish performs a tribute concert in honour of her hometown at the Hollywood Bowl to promote her 2nd studio album also called ‘Happier Than Ever’.
My two cents:
I have to admit that I knew next to nothing about Billie Eilish before watching this movie but it turned out to be a pretty neat way to get acquainted with this new emerging massive pop star. However, to be honest, even though she definitely can sing and has a nice voice, you have to really dig her way of whispering her songs though and I think it is definitely an acquired taste. I was also intrigued by her rather unflattering outfit (it was really something else than Beyoncé who had a dozen of sexy outfits in ‘Homecoming’) but, apparently, it is on purpose, among other things, to avoid being sexualized which is actually recommendable. Indeed, most of the young female pop singers always focus on giving a sexy image so she should be actually praised for this choice. Concerning the rest of the movie, well, it turned out to be a typical ‘lockdown’ concert with no audience involved but even though the venue (the Hollywood Bowl) was impressive, the presentation was still pretty dry though. Concerning the animated character, she actually looked really neat (I’m not so sure about the fact that she wore a rather skimpy outfit and looked actually thinner than Eilish though) but, except for roaming around in her car to some, I suppose, famous LA landmarks, she didn’t do anything interesting whatsoever so she seemed to be a rather missed opportunity after all. Anyway, it was a still decent watch though.

Notes: In fact, I did see the damned thing back then with my buddies in the movie theater when it was released. At the time, it was not yet hailed as a great classic and, to be honest, I thought it was a decent watch but nothing really amazing. Since then, I have re-watched it at least 3 times but I still don't get why everybody seems to think it is one of the best movies ever made. I mean, it did look awesome, the directing was off the chart, Russel Crowe delivered an impressive performance but what about the story? Yes, it was entertaining but it was also really nothing ground-breaking in my opinion. I know, it is a huge classic and it is definitely a solid feature but it is not much more than that, I’m afraid. In my opinion, at the end of the day, the story was in fact a rather generic peplum and it didn't add much to the formula. In this style, I'd rather watch 'Spartacus' or 'Ben Hur' anytime. At least, thanks to this movie and after struggling for many years, Ridley Scott finally managed to make a massive come-back becoming one of the most productive directors at work nowadays. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, it is in fact a decent action movie, I'll give you that, but it is definitely not a great flick.3 years, 8 months ago

At the time, it was not yet hailed as a great classic and, to be honest, I thought it was a decent watch but nothing really amazing.
