“When I heard about this movie, it sounded really interesting so I was quite eager to check it out. The fact that it was Todd Phillips's directing debut and the fact that it was miles away from his usual raunchy comedies made the damned thing even more intriguing to me. Well, even though GG Allin had” read more

johanlefourbe added 1 item to 1001 Movies ... my own version (2000's) list
Notes: Before watching this documentary, I thought I would like the damned thing but I didn't expect to love it so much. Indeed, I thought it was just really amazing and it is easily one of my favorite documentaries. The great masterstorke is that I really didn't expect it to be be some kind of spellbinding thriller and, in my opinion, it was actually way more entertaining that many blockbusters that are released nowdays. On top of that, this whole act may seem rather pointless or meaningless but, for me, it was actually pretty much a real work of Art and this movie perfectly gave this feeling. Anyway, in my opinion, it is easily one of the greatest documentaries ever made.

Notes: Honestly, I was just completely blown away and I would go as far as saying that it is one of the best movies I have ever seen. First of all, the way it was shot was really impressive. Indeed, this movie is really stylized but also quite realistic at the same time which is something rather unique, it has some complex shots and nice visuals but it remains raw at the core. But it is not one of those movies with some nice visuals but rather tedious, no, here, the story keeps you on the edge from the beginning until the very end and it was just quite fascinating. I thought that the characters were all intriguing, even the smaller ones, and even though there were many characters, it was so well written that you could easily follow what was going on and who’s who and who was doing what. How they managed to make such an entertaining and insightful movie in one of the most dangerous places on earth is quite a marvel and a mystery to me.

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since there was a nice cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. Eventually, even if the movie itself was not really amazing, I’m afraid, it still turned out to be a fascinating story though. Basically, as long as they were f” read more
