The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Notes: Well, it is my favorite Western. Basically, I started to watch it as a kid with my father and I was actually planning to watch it again this time with my step-son but I ended up watching it on my own. I guess it is just too slow paced for him. Anyway, I had recently watched again ‘A Fistful of Dollars’ and ‘For a Few Dollars More’ so I obviously had to round up this trilogy with this seminal classic. In my opinion, it clearly stands apart from the rest of the trilogy as the scope was much bigger this time and Sergio Leone had a rather impressive budget, at least for the time period. Indeed, there was even some room for a war scene and Leone didn’t really focus on Clint Eastwood like in the previous movies but he spent some good amount of time with Eli Wallach who had a great character (as a matter of fact, he even had the most screen-time) and he made a great duo with Eastwood. Maybe they could have developed a little more Lee Van Cleef’s character but that wasn’t really a big deal. Anyway, I really love the damned thing.

A good movie

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since I always had a weak spot for Barbet Schroeder's work and since this movie was available on Netflix, I was quite eager to check it out. First of all, I have always been wondering how the Germans of my age or younger are able to deal with t” read more

An average movie

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this movie but since I have a weak spot for Jason Bateman, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even though it turned out to be a decent watch, to be honest, it was anything really amazing though. First of all, I don't think I really cared about the ” read more

Notes: ‘A bout de souffle’ is and will remain one of my favorite movies forever and I have been following Godard ever since his masterpiece really blew me away but, unfortunately, no one of his movies have reached this level of awesomeness, at least not in my opinion. The point is that, pretty soon in his career, his movies started to get pretty cryptic really soon and become harder and harder to follow and, nowadays, except for a few die-hard fans, we all pretty much agree that his work has become some incomprehensible pseudo-intellectual and political mix, a mix I always had a hard time to appreciate. This movie is a pretty good example. I mean, it has a pretty good reputation and it was actually quite intriguing but it was so hard to follow, I can’t say I really loved the damned thing. Still, the cast was pretty cool, it included the always awesome Jean-Pierre Léaud, the most popular actor among the French new wave, and also Chantal Goya who was really lovely at the time but she would end up singing some really lame children songs in the 80’s.

“I already saw this movie but since it was such a long time ago and since I had it on DVD, I was quite eager to check it out again. First of all, I have always been a huge fan of the Nikopol trilogy so this movie was pretty much a must-see for me but I strongly advise to read the comic-books first to” read more
