A good movie

“Since I kept hearing some good things about this movie, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, eventually, it turned out to be a decent watch but not much more than that, to be honest. Indeed, after such movies like ‘Blade Runner’, ‘Her’ or ‘Ex Machina’, it is rather tricky to come up ” read more

An average movie

“I wasn’t sure what to expect from this flick but since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, even though the concept of focusing on the last days of Edgar Allen Poe was pretty neat, unfortunately, pretty much everything else didn’t really work though. In” read more

@doudouce55, it's just that it is rather weird to start your analysis with 'The make-up ... was terribly awful and badly done'. It gives the feeling that, for a spy thriller like this one, the make-up

The Godfather: Part II
Notes: The only flaw with this movie is that, in spite of its greatness, it will always remain a sequel, probably the best sequel ever made but still a sequel nonetheless. Anyway, the fact remains that it is a great flick, probably as good as the first one. The masterstroke was to continue the story with most of the same characters but it still stands on its own though. To do so, Coppola chose a different structure which was quite spellbinding. Indeed, not only you follow Michael Corleone in his rise (or fall, it depends how you see it) as the new godfather but you follow also Vito Corleone going from Sicily to New York with literally nothing and slowly climbing his way up in the mob hierarchy. To make things even more amazing, to portray a young Vito Corleone, Coppola picked up a then still unknown Robert de Niro so he had two acting giants at the top of their games to play 2 generations of Corleones. Honestly, it doesn't get much better than that.

An average movie

“I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I thought I might as well check it out again. According to IMDb, it is apparently Tony Scott’s 3rd best movie only behind ‘True Romance’ and ‘Man on Fire’ and I have to admit that it is indeed a really entert” read more

The Son of Bigfoot
Notes: When my daughter told me that she wanted to watch this movie, I have to admit that I didn't know at all what she was talking about which is usually not really a good omen. So, I looked it up and, honestly, I thought I looked really lame but we still ended up watching it in the movie theater together. Well, I have to admit it, it was not as awful as I expected it to be. I mean, it was still pretty weak but, at least, it was watchable. Furthermore, the animation, while not being anything groundbreaking, was decent enough and even the 3D effects were not bad at all which was a nice surprise coming from a Belgian-French production like this one. Unfortunately, I still had a hard time to care about the story. I mean, once again, it wasn't the worst story ever but it was still really generic and terribly boring.

The Conversation
Notes: To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. It is apparently Francis Ford Coppola's personal favorite of his movies. Eventually, the only reason this movie didn’t get the love it deserved was probably the fact that Coppola was really on fire in the 70’s and all his movies turned out to be some huge masterpieces. Anyway, the whole thing was a raw and realistic feature, so much more spellbinding than the modern thrillers that we get nowadays. Indeed, for example, many years later, Tony Scott came up with ‘Enemy of State’ which also focusing on some conspiracy theory, also starring Gene Hackman in a similar part, but even though it was fairly entertaining, most of it was seriously far-fetched and borderline ridiculous. In this movie, every thing was actually likely to happen (for example, they used in this movie the very same surveillance and wire-tapping equipment that members of the Nixon Administration used to spy on political opponents prior to the Watergate scandal) which made the whole thing much more fascinating to behold.
