A good movie

“I already saw this movie but since it was maybe 20 years go and since I had it on DVD, I was really eager to check it out again. Well, eventually, even though it turned out to be pretty good, I still didn't completely blow me away though. Eventually, the biggest problem was that the damned thing was” read more

A very good movie

“I already saw this movie, in fact, I have even seen it when it was released, but since I'm a huge fan of Christopher Nolan's work, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, I'm really glad I gave it a second chance after all these years because, this time around, I finally understood why i” read more

Dunkirk
Notes: Well, it seems to be already another box-office hit for Nolan which is even more remarkable since you wouldn't expect a movie dealing with WWII to be able to compete with your usual summer blockbusters. Still, to be honest, I don't think it will be remembered as one of his best movies. I mean, sure, I was glad that he was at last doing something else than a super-hero flick or some high-concept science-fiction thriller, but at the end of the day, even if it looked different, it was still yet another thriller, something he has been doing through his whole career. Furthermore, I have seen my share of movies dealing with this conflict and, even though it was really good, I have seen better to be honest. On top of that, I didn't care much for the mixed chronology and I didn't help that really none of the involved characters was developed at all. Still, from a technical point of view, it was really quite impressive and I have to admit that this movie was just seriously entertaining.

An average movie

“I was spending the week-end at my parents's house and since my little nephew wanted to check this movie, I thought I might as well check it out as well. Furthermore, since I heard it was the best installment in this franchise, I thought it might turn out to be a decent watch. Well, eventually, even ” read more

A classic

“Since this movie has a really solid reputation, I was really eager to check it out. First of all, it is too bad that I saw before two really weak remakes ('Body Snatchers' and 'The Invasion'), without mentioning the countless copycats such as 'The World's End', as they slightly ruined the story for ” read more

F for Fake
Notes: Somehow, I have actually seen this flick in the movie theater. Anyway, at the time, I had no idea what to expect from this movie but since I was a huge fan of Orson Welles, I was really eager to check it out. Honestly, I have always been surprised by the fact that this movie is often considered as a ‘documentary’. I mean, sure, it is not really a fiction either since there is no real characters and no real plot but it is still far from being a documentary either. Eventually, it is probably the biggest appeal about this flick, the fact that it is actually quite experimental and that it doesn’t belong to any genre. To be honest, I must have been a little too young the first time I watched it, I probably missed a lot and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. Still, it was definitely an interesting watch, a very smart and labyrinthine feature, and a great final directing effort for Orson Welles. Indeed, throughout his career, even though Welles managed to make one of the greatest movies ever made at only 26 years old, most of his career as a director was pretty chaotic and it was just neat that he could end up with such a clever feature.
