Original Title: 'Pusher III' Country: Denmark Directed by: Nicolas Winding Refn Plot: In this third installment of the 'Pusher' trilogy, we follow Milo, the drug lord from the two first films. He is aging, he is planning his daughter's 25th birthday and his shipment of heroin turns out to be 10.000 pills of ecstasy. When Milo tries to sell the pills anyway, all Hell breaks loose. Note: To be honest, since I was slightly disappointed by ‘Pusher II’, I actually lowered my expectations for this 3rd and last installment. Fortunately, the movie was actually pretty good. First of all, what I liked the most about this trilogy was that it didn’t focus on one character but instead move on from one character to another through the whole trilogy. This 2nd sequel focused thus on Milo who was easily one of the most charismatic guys introduced in these movies.

A good movie

“To be honest, since I was slightly disappointed by ‘Pusher II’, I actually lowered my expectations for this 3rd and last installment. On top of that, even though the DVD was brand-new, it seemed to be actually defect and, as a result, my DVD player was buzzing like a god-damned helicopter throug” read more

An average movie

“Obviously, I wasn’t expecting much from this movie but since I have seen most of the movies directed by Roland Emmerich, I was still eager to check it out. Well, first of all, the whole thing was just seriously misguided. I mean, I have to admit it, ‘Independence Day’ was actually not bad but,” read more

The Dress
Note : Recently, I have been discovering Alex van Warmerdan’s movies. So far, I had seen 4 of them but, even though I enjoyed all of them, there was all still missing something to really blow me away. With this in mind, since this movie had a much lower rating than his previous movies, I had lower my expectations but, eventually, it turned out to be his best movie I have seen from this director so far. First of all, I always thought that van Warmerdan’s movies were quite funny but this one was just hilarious and I’m pretty sure it is the most hilarious Dutch movie I have seen so far. Seriously, the first 20 minutes were just so funny, it was pretty much pitch-perfect. As usual with this director, the dialogues were pretty neat but, here, they were even better and pretty much always spot on. Concerning the story, sure, it was pretty random but I thought it really well. Basically, it was some kind of hyperlink feature with many small stories linked to some completely random dress but I thought it was much more enjoyable than the other abstract tales usually delivered by the Dutch director.

The Dress
Original Title: 'De jurk' Directed by: Alex van Warmerdam With: Alex van Warmerdam, Annet Malherbe, Henri Garcin, Peter Blok, Jack Wouterse, Ricky Koole, Susan Visser, Mimoun Oaïssa Plot: The Dress is a tale filled with sex, violence, comedy and drama as it follows the life of a dress. Conceived under a cloud of frustration and despair, the dress serves as the hub in a great wheel of misfortune in an extraordinary sequence of events that envelopes both the dress and those fatefully drawn into its universe. An aloof artist, a virginal school girl, an unfulfilled maid, a lowly train conductor and a broken business executive, all become involuntary players in a macabre game of tag. No one who comes in contact with the dress can escape its dramatic, shocking and hilarious consequences.

Frenzy
Notes: Many consider this movie to be the last masterpiece directed by Alfred Hitchcock and I was indeed quite impressed. Even though it may not be as good as his previous classics such as ‘Psycho’, ‘Vertigo’ or ‘The Birds’, it still is a damned good picture. Personally, I especially enjoyed how dark the tone was and even tough the guy has constantly made some impressive thrillers through his career, he has never made something so bleak before and it must have been quite a shock when it was released. To be honest, this gloominess made the whole thing quite intriguing to behold but it made also it difficult to really connect with this feature. It is like the fact that he, for once, didn’t use any stars but some fairly unknown actors. Indeed, the glamor was completely removed which was an interesting touch but it made the whole thing, I don’t know, a little bit dry. Still, there is no denying that, as usual with Hitchcock, the directing was quite impressive.
