A good movie

“Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this flick, I thought I might as well check it out. By now, you might think that the found-footage gimmick has been done to death but, apparently, the film makers still manage to find some way to be creative with this concept. Indeed, in this case, ” read more

A good movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. Basically, Johnny Depp showed up in this movie just before becoming a huge star with ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’ and I wonder if it would attract any aud” read more

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Notes: I remember very well the first time I saw the damned thing. In fact, at the time, I had never heard of this flick before and it is my brother-in-law who brought it to our attention saying that it had a very notorious reputation, that it was one of the scariest movies ever made. So, we sat there with the 3 of us (my sister, her boyfriend and myself), expecting something really horrible to happen but, to be honest, we didn’t care much for the whole thing. I mean, sure, it was well made and Michael Rooker gave a really solid performance but, in my opinion, the movie didn’t have much else to offer. Basically, it is a decent serial-killer flick and the only original thing was that the guy didn’t get caught at the end. Apparently, that was something that deeply shocked the viewers at the time, that someone so evil would get away with doing something so terrible but, to be honest, I thought this approach was clever but not much more than that, I’m afraid.

“After 6 long years, Michael Moore was finally coming up with a new directing effort so, of course, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, to be honest, I think it was actually his weakest movie so far. I mean, it was not really bad, in fact, it was still a decent watch but I thought that this movi” read more

An average movie

“Not to be confused with the movie released in 2005 which gave us Brangelina, this movie was actually one of the very few comedies directed by Alfred Hitchcock (to be honest, I can't remember what was his other comedies which shows how little impact they had on me). Well, even though it was nice that” read more

“I wasn't really sure what to expect from this  movie but, since I always had a weak spot for Glenn Close, I thought I might as well check it out. First of all, I can't remember the last time I saw her playing the lead so it was really neat to see this fine actress finally at the center of this stor” read more

A good movie

“To be honest, I always had some mixed feelings about this flick. In fact, I actually saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released. Back then, I thought it was a decent watch but nothing really mind-blowing. However, since I kept hearing some great thing about the damned thing (acco” read more

Goodbye, Children
Notes: It is probably one of the most heralded movies made by Louis Malle and it even won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film festival back in those days. 10 years before, Louis Malle made another movie about France during WWII called 'Lacombe Lucien'. Personally, I did prefer 'Lacombe Lucien' because it was more original, a dark really unique view of this time period in France. This movie was more a crowd pleaser but it was still really good nonetheless. Apparently, even though it wasn't really autobiographical, it was still based on Malle's youth memories. Eventually, even though the whole thing was not really original, it was a very well made drama, probably the best in its genre. Indeed, I really loved the understated directing and the children were just downright amazing. Indeed, it follows more or less the rules of the formulas (an outsider comes to a school, at first there is some apprehension but then, of course, they become friends before the ultimate separation) but the characters and the emotions displayed felt really genuine.

“Back in 2015, Steven Spielberg came up with ‘Bridge of Spies’ but even though it was well received, I thought it was rather underwhelming. Only a year later,  he quickly came up with something new but even though Disney had a record-breaking year, they had a flew flops and this movie turned out” read more

A classic

“Surprisingly, according to the IMDb ratings, this movie is, the best one delivered by the Coen brothers so far. On the other hand, it does have a huge cult following. Personally, I actually always go back and forth with this movie. Indeed, depending on my mood, I would find it really awesome but, at” read more
