An average movie

“I already saw this movie but, since it was ages ago, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, I was actually surprised by how little I actually remembered the damned thing which is usually not really a good sign. Anyway, I have to admit that I always had some mixed feelings regarding this” read more

Notes: Nowadays, this movie is pretty much forgotten but when it was released, it was a smash hit and it is still one of the most successful movies coming from Australia, if I’m not mistaken. Anyway, even though the whole thing was directed by Chris Noonan, apparently, this movie was a ten-year labor of love for George Miller who wrote and produced this flick. That was rather unexpected. I mean, who would have thought that the guy behind Mad Max would come up with a family feature with a talking pig as a main character? Anyway, like I said before, it was back then a box-office success and I think it really deserved all this praise. I mean, 10 years later, the Americans came up with a similar movie called ‘Charlotte’s web’ which was also an adaptation of a very popular book but guess what? It was terribly underwhelming. Not this one though. Indeed, I thought it was really cute, sweet and worked like a charm.

An average movie

“Since my wife has a weak spot for such Dutch romantic-comedies, I thought we could check it out together. Eventually, even though it seemed to have some potential, unfortunately, it turned out to be terribly underwhelming. The first thing that bothered me was how it shamelessly copied ‘You’ve go” read more

A good movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and maybe I should re-watch it at some point. Anyway, I remember very well when it was released. Indeed, it sounded pretty neat so I even saw it in the movie theater at the time. Unfortunately, even though I thought it was a decent watch” read more

Notes: I actually saw this movie twice in the movie theater when it was released. The first time, I was completely blown away and I thought it was great. But the second time, I could step back and pay more attention to the small details. I won't deny it, the visuals, the acting and the mood were quite impressive and it remains an entertaining feature but, in my opinion, the story is actually rather shallow. I mean, it is basically a typical story about an omnipotent serial-killer who knows everything, even the future apparently and the guy seemed also to have a massive budget at his disposal. I always had some issue with this genre because it is always really preposterous and this movie was not an exception, I'm afraid, and the amount of plot holes was just massive. Furthermore, there is actually no investigation whatsoever, the two cops are just some puppets at the mercy of a thankless plot which made the whole thing even more tedious. Eventually, it is just nicely done but at the end of the day, not very deep whatsoever.

A good movie

“Once again, the thing I enjoyed the most with this movie was to witness the evolution of Xavier Dolan. Indeed, this 3rd directing was even more ambitious than his previous movie (with a duration of almost 3 hours, it is also Nolan’s longest movie so far), even if it was more straightforward than” read more

An average movie

“Back in the 90’s-80’s, it must have looked great on paper to make a movie starring Richard Gere and Kim Basinger, two massive sex-symbols from that time period. Indeed, back in those days, the box-office was driven by the stars involved and not by some huge franchises with some super-heroes, rob” read more

Notes: Back in the 90's, Harvey Keitel made a major come-back, mostly thanks to ‘Reservoir Dogs’, and he was one the most interesting actors around. Unfortunately, in the 2000's, he went back to minor movies... Anyway, in this movie, Keitel, like the rest of the cast, was really good. This movie was also the very first time that I saw William Hurt and the guy really impressed me. What I didn’t know then, is that Hurt was actually one of the most heralded actors of the 80’s, a status he lost at the beginning of the 90’s but never managed to get back. After watching this movie, I have been following his work ever since and I think the guy is actually really underrated nowadays. Coming back to our main feature, the directing was very good and the story was quite fascinating. Indeed, at the time, Paul Auster was one of the most acclaimed writers in the world and it was just amazing to see his spellbinding way to tell a story in a movie like this one.
