The Draughtsman
Notes: To be honest, I wonder how I actually ended up watching this movie but I think it was because the critic in the TV mag was pretty good. Anyway, even though I didn’t really expect it, it turned out to be a major milestone in my movie watching. Indeed, back then, I was much younger, I had never seen anything like this before and I was seriously blown away by the whole thing. I think that the first thing that impressed me with this movie was its visual aspect. Basically, it deals with art and painting and it is probably the movie which made the best connection with the painting art I have ever seen. Furthermore, there was also a mesmerizing surrealist vibe with this movie and even though the plot and the characters were rather murky, it was one of the most spellbinding movies I have ever seen. Concerning Peter Greenaway, it was his breakthrough feature film, it would be also his first movie I managed to watch and I became right away a big fan of his work.

A good movie

“I didn’t have some really high expectations regarding this movie but since it was directed by Jeff Nichols, I thought I might as well check it out. To be honest, ‘Midnight Special’ had been a decent watch but, in spite some really solid reviews, it didn’t really impress me and this new direc” read more

You definitely made some interesting points and, eventually, it is also a matter of taste. However, the only critic I might have is that it is rather pointless to argue that a Terminator movie doesn'

Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Notes: Is this sequel better than its predecessor ? Difficult to say but it is definitely a worthy sequel. I remember it so well, I actually saw this damned thing with my father when it came out. Seriously, I must have been 12 years old and, back then, it just blew me away. On top of that, the character of John Connor made it really easy to get into the story since I was about the same age. Many years later, I watched this movie again with my step-son and, once again, I was really impressed. In fact, the story was almost identical to the first movie but they have added so many new elements so it didn't bother me whatsoever. This time, James Cameron had a huge budget (in fact, it was the most expensive movie ever made at that time) and it clearly shows on the screen. Indeed, you had here some groundbreaking special effects and some really kick-ass action scenes. Once again, the story was a mix of despair, funny scenes with some great oneliners and even some interesting bonding between Sarah Connor, John Connor and the Terminator.

An average movie

“I really had no idea what to expect from this flick but since it was directed by Sally Potter and since there was a really nice cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. Even though Potter has a solid reputation, I have to admit that I don’t have a clear view or understanding of what ” read more

Black Swan (2010)
Notes: Before this movie was released, there was a huge buzz about it and since I'm a huge fan of Darren Aronofosky's work, I was really eager to check this flick. Eventually, I really loved it and even watched it twice in the movie theater which is something I haven't done for many years. Basically, Aronofosky displayed once again his versatility and after making an amazing movie about the wrestling world, he has now made an amazing movie about the ballet world. Seriously, it was just very impressive. The directing was indeed very good, Natalie Portman gave the best performance of her career and she definitely deserved her Academy Award. Eventually, in my opinion, it was just a fascinating picture which shares my views about Art. Indeed, in my opinion, Art always goes with excess, violence, sex, it should push the boundaries and it can be highly destructive. My only complains with this movie would be that 'The Swan Lake', the actual ballet, is actually rather dull. Furthermore, since it was only 90 minutes, none of the supporting characters were really developed and I wish I had the chance to get to know them a little bit more. . Still, it is and remains a fascinating picture.
