Going Places
Notes: In France, it is a huge classic and I definitely had to watch it at some point. Concerning the director, even though Bertrand Blier never really reached much recognition on an international level, he is definitely highly regarded in France where many of his movies have been some massive commercial or critical successes. Anyway, this flick was the start of a great career for Gérard Depardieu who would become an icone in French cinema for the following 40 years. And indeed, Depardieu and Dewaere were both awesome in this flick which was often quite hilarious. When I’m watching a movie like this one, it reminds me of the fact that in France it is possible to release a movie litterally called ‘The Testicles’ and you won’t get censored in any way. Anyway, I think it is a great movie which was also a lot of fun to watch. I mean, the whole thing was pretty chaotic and there was barely any plot, instead you get on this rather wild road trip with those misfits and I thought it was quite spellbinding to watch.

A good movie

“Since I have always been intrigued by John Cassavetes's movies, I was quite eager to check out this movie. To be honest, I have to admit that it had been years, even decades, the last time I saw one of his directing efforts. Well, within the first 10 mins, I remembered how challenging his work can b” read more

Rocco and His Brothers
Notes: To be honest, it has been while since I have seen this flick but like everything directed by Luchino Visconti, it was quite fascinating to behold. I have to admit that, when I was a teenager, I thought that Alain Delon was a rather lame actor (at the time, he certainly didn’t have a stellar reputation in France or else where so give me a break…) and I had no idea that, in the 60's and the 70's, the guy was actually one of the best actors around. It’s just too bad his career went downhill in the 80's and it has been probably a couple of decades since he has done anything really worthwhile. Anyway, coming back to our main feature, many might argue that it was the best movie directed by Visconti and it is probably my favourite one so far but I still have to watch more than half of his work. Anyway, this was quite an amazing movie. Indeed, everything from the directing, the mood to the actors was just top notch.

A good movie

“Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this flick, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, the first tricky thing with this movie was that even though you see Winston Churchill struggling, we all know that he would eventually prevail and become one of the most famous British Prime Minis” read more

To Have and Have Not
Notes: To be honest, even though I’m a huge movie buff, I'm not really familiar with Humphrey Bogart. I mean, I have seen a couple of his movies but not that many. Anyway, I try to catch his movies every time I get the chance and this time, I was really not disappointed. Indeed, this movie is really the stuff of legend. First of all, it was the first movie starring Lauren Bacall. Back in those days, she was only 20 years old when she made it and it was also the first movie she made with her future husband, Humphrey Bogart. Furthermore, it was directed by the great Howard Hawks and it is an adaptation of a novel written by Ernest Hemingway. Basically, it doesn't get more prestigious than this, does it? Anyway, the acting was really solid, the directing was very good and I just really enjoyed the story, basically one of those typical film noir they used to make back then. I mean, it was a rather typical film noir but it was full of awesome one-liners and the tone was just really well set and I thought it was completely entertaining.

An average movie

“Even though I didn’t have some huge expectations, since this movie was directed by Niki Caro and since it was available on Disney+, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, in the sub-genre of the inspirational sports tale based on a true story, to be honest, it was hardly original but it was” read more
