Notes: Honestly, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should definitely re-watch it at some point whenever I get the opportunity. The point is that this flick is just a massive masterpiece and it really blew me away the first time I saw it. Basically, in my opinion, it is the ultimate psychopath movie and during the last 90 years, they have tried to improve the formula but they never improved on the blue print developped in this feature. The funny thing is that I have always been a little bit dismissive towards the serial killer sub-genre. Indeed, most of them, even such massive classics like ‘The Silence of The Lambs’ and ‘Seven’, are so far-fetched, so over the top, I always have a hard time to really connect with them. This one is different though. Indeed, there are no chases, no shootings, no explosions like you see in your typical US thriller. What you have instead is just a frightening and fascinating psychological study of a sick mind and I thought it was much more interesting to behold.

The Way Way Back

An average movie

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I always had a weak spot for Natalie Portman, I thought I might as well check her directing debut. Well, even if it was quite ambitious and quite courageous to deliver a movie spoken only in Hebrew, to be honest, the damned thing was no” read more

Psycho
Notes: It is already more than 50 years old but it is still one of the best thrillers ever made. Whereas some older horror/thriller flicks tend to get a little bit cheesy and outdated when you see them so many years later, this one still looks modern and the structure is still stricking even for nowadays standards (Indeed, at first, the focus is set on Janet Leigh but she is in fact killed really early in the movie). The whole thing was so unexpected, it was just pure genius and the fact that it hasn't been more copied later on is because most of the directors don't have the balls to try such a daring move. I can imagine how the audience must have been shocked at the time, it must have been awesome to witness it first hand. Furthermore, it is still pretty creepy and Anthony Perkins gave one of the best performances in motion picture history. Indeed, he managed to create such a fascinating character, at the same time, rather sweet and even charismatic but also awkward and antisocial. When I check Hitchock's filmography, I think I still prefer 'Vertigo' even more but this flick is probably a closed second.

Eyes Wide Shut
Notes: This was the last movie directed by Stanley Kubrick and, eventually, not everyone was sold when it was released. Indeed, many people thought it was in fact one of his least successful features but I personally think it was actually another great movie from the best director that ever lived. It is such a shame that it took him 12 years to finally make another movie and it is even worse that nothing more will come out from this genius. Anyway, I remember it very well, when it came out, there was a huge buzz about the damned thing and I had the pleasure to behold this masterpiece in the movie theater. As usual, you had the incredible Kubrick directing, completely flawless with his usual obsessive attention to every single detail. On the other hand, you had this fascinating story which was almost a captivating Hollywood thriller. I say "almost" because at the end, there was no big chase, rooftop final battle or a big twist explaining everything that happened before. There was actually no real answer and I think that's the reason why many people got frustrated by the damned thing, this fact that they are so used to that everything is supposed to be solved at the end (at least, that's what the average viewer expects).

“To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but since I used to be a huge fan of Abel Ferrara, I thought I might as well check it out. A good movie

“Since I heard that Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck had made an impressive comeback with this movie, I was really eager to check it out. Well, eventually, I have to admit that I ended up with some similar feelings I had with his classic ‘Das Leben der Anderen’. Indeed, even though I mostly admir” read more

Tiger King
What is it about? A rivalry between big cat eccentrics takes a dark turn when Joe Exotic, a controversial animal park boss, is caught in a murder-for-hire plot. My verdict: The main reason I decided to watch this show was because there was such a huge hype when it was released. Well, to be honest, even if it was indeed fairly entertaining, it didn't really blow me away. Basically, right from the start, they argued that the people in this business were batsh*t crazy and they kept repeating this continuously but nothing really surprising happen after all. So, a decent show but not much more than that. Will I watch the following seasons? There was actually a 2nd season but it did sound rather lame so I just skipped it.
