Notes: I have to admit it, it has been a while since I saw this one but I will definitely re-watch it as soon I get the opportunity. When talking about Lynch's career, it seems that this movie has been a little bit forgotten. Indeed, if you compare it to the movies more faithful to his directing style such as 'Blue Velvet' or 'Mulholland Dr.', it seems to be like a rather straightforward drama. Indeed, it is rather straightforward but still quite fascinating to watch in my opinion and after directing only 2 movies, David Lynch was already regarded as one of the most promising American directors at work. The best thing in this movie was that even though the story was rather predictable, Lynch preserved his own rather dark directing style and it made the whole thing quite sinister but so spellbinding to watch. Another thing that I appreciated is that, for once, he allowed us to get acquainted with the characters, to get to know them and eventually to care about them. 8 years, 2 months ago

Note : In spite of a decent concept, ‘Hoodwinked!' turned out to be a really underwhelming ‘Shrek’ copycat. Well, surprisingly, 6 years later, they came up with this new instalment which got even less love than its predecessor and went by completely unnoticed. And, indeed, the damned thing was pretty much unwatchable. First of all, even though they made this sequel came out 6 years later, they didn’t improve the animation at all and the whole thing was really seriously ugly. Furthermore, even if the concept originally appealed to me with the first movie, now, it was just getting on my nerves and the fact that the plot was just tedious and moronic didn’t help at all.8 years, 3 months ago

Notes: Even though Maurice Pialat is not really well known in Listal, he was (and still is actually) a very highly regarded director in France. Honestly, I haven't seen many movies directed by Pialat but considering his reputation, I was really eager to watch this flick which was starring Gérard Depardieu and Isabelle Huppert who are both two of the best French actors for already the last 3 decades. Well, they were both really impressive. The story was dealing with one of those rather convoluted and messed up relationship that you only get to see in French movies. In my opinion, the plot was rather far-fetched and even depressing but thanks to the tremendous work of the actors involved, it was still a nice watch. 8 years, 3 months ago

Notes: Since I kept hearing some really good things about this movie, I was really eager to check it out. Well, eventually, I wasn't disappointed, that's for sure. Basically, it was pretty much a flawless drama that worked on all levels. Indeed, I was at first quite impressed by its visual style which was sober but also so effective and, yet, they managed to make some rather simple scenes like a character smoking beautiful to look at. Then, you had the score which was a perfect mix between classic and modern. So, the directing was really strong but the performances were just really fine as well from all the actors involved. Another thing I really appreciated in this movie was how deep and complex all the characters were displayed. Eventually, there was something really hearbreaking about this tale and it displayed how merciless such environment can be, especially if you show any kind of weakness. It raises such questions like should we always be true to ourself even it will probably result in our own destruction or should we adapt in order to survive?8 years, 3 months ago
