The End of the Tour

The 5th Wave
Notes: Following the footsteps of Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence and Shailene Woodley, Chloë Grace Moretz decided she should also have her own franchise based on a Young Adult novel, which wasn't really a bad decision career-wise. The only point was that the whole thing turned out to be pretty weak, I'm afraid, and I'm pretty sure they won't release any sequels after all.

An average movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie but it was definitely a major guilty pleasure for me. Indeed, it is in fact a terribly generic and predictable romantic-comedy and, yet, I thought it was not bad at all, above all thanks to the 2 actors playing the lead. Indeed, like any” read more

A great classic

“What can be said about this movie that hasn’t been said so many times before? Basically, it is pure and simply another impressive piece of cinema coming from Charles Chaplin and it is probably even better than 'The Circus' which I also loved. In fact, I have actually a nice story about this flick.” read more

A very good movie

“Since I kept hearing some really good things about this movie, I was really eager to check it out. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Notes: To be honest, at first, I was a little bit worried that it would be yet another feature about a shy kid struggling in high-school but, eventually, it turned out to be maybe not the very best movie in this genre but at least certainly one of the very best. Where should I start? Basically, pretty much everything was pitch-perfect, going from the chosen actors for each part, to the realistic and engrossing relationships between the characters involved.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Notes: Even though I'm not sure that the first reboot about Jack Ryan starring Ben Affleck called 'The Sum of All Fears' was supposed to launch a new franchise, this new reboot with an even younger Jack Ryan played by Chris Pine was definitely supposed to have some sequels. There were even plans to make some spin-off starring Kevin Costner's character. Well, since the critics were really lukewarm and it didn't do very well at the box-office, all these plans were eventually cancelled.

A classic

“I already saw this movie but since it was ages ago, I thought I might as well check it out again. In fact, I remember very well the first time I saw it. Basically, my girlfriend at the time actually picked it up saying that it was a classic and that we should definitely watch it together. Well, back” read more

Ringu (1998)
Notes: The first time, I watched this movie, I was so scared shitless... I was with a whole bunch of friends and nobody was really paying attention to the movie but I was completely fixating and the scene with the TV (if you have seen it, you know what I'm talking about...) was, at the time, one of most frightening scenes I have ever seen. The funny thing is that I re-watched it again not so long ago, 10 later years and, honestly, it wasn't as terrifying as I thought it was (maybe it has to do with the fact that I was really stoned the first time but let's move on to something else...). Anyway, even though it may not be as scary as I thought it was, it still remains one of my favorite horror movies. Indeed, after all these years, it remains a fascinating story told by some very competent directing. I just love the way the actors tell you their story without constantly rationalizing what's going one which was, in my opinion, the biggest issue with the US remake . Sure, the whole thing is actually completely preposterous but I thought it was completely spellbinding anyway. Eventually, it's a shame that the remake is much more famous than this original version.

Deadpool
Notes: In this age, when we are getting closer and closer towards a major super-hero overdose, this movie was actually what this genre needed. Indeed, basically the makers rejected both the dark and gloominess delivered by DC and the brainless popcorn entertainment produced by Marvel and they went for something really different delivering one of the most messed-up and entertaining super-hero features out there. Sure, there was indeed an origin story, also a rather generic romance and even some pretty badass action scenes, but, at the end of the day, they hardly cared for the plot, neither was I, and instead, they focused on the hilarious jokes and oneliners delivered by the Merc with a Mouth which was a great move.

A good movie

“Since I kept hearing some pretty good things about this movie, I was quite eager to check it out.  On top of that, my wife has always been a fan of this franchise so we watched it together which was pretty neat. Eventually, to be honest, I actually ended up with some mixed feelings about the damned” read more

A good movie

“For some reasons, even though I have been following Woody Allen’s work for several decades now, I have never been a huge fan of this movie. I mean, the first time I saw it, I was much younger and maybe I wasn’t able to really appreciate it but, eventually, after all these years, I have to admit ” read more

A classic

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should definitely rewatch it at some point. Anyway, when it was released in France, it was actually poorly  received by the critics but, eventually, it turned out to be a massive box-office success and it is now considered a Frenc” read more
