Notes: Honestly, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should definitely re-watch it at some point. Anyway, it is definitely a typical Cronenberg feature and I thought it was pretty good. At the time, Cronenberg was still transitioning to some more commercial features easier to digest for the mainstream audience but there were still many of his famous trademarks that you could find in his rather gross horror features he made at the end of the 70’s. As a result, even though the whole thing was quite accessible , it was still pretty weird and sometimes a little bit hard to follow but there was definitely something quite spellbinding about the whole thing and there was no denying that it was visually quite impressive. James Woods, one of the most underrated actors that ever lived, was a perfect choice and he delivered one of his typical hysterical and over-the-top performances which did fit really well in Cronenberg’s demented world.

An average movie

“To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from the damned thing but since it was available on Neftlix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, as expected, it turned out to be one of the weakest movies I have seen released this year (2021) but it’s too bad because the opening scene actually ha” read more

Notes: The damned thing was so weak and it’s too bad because the opening scene actually had some potential. Indeed, I really liked these 2 girls who bonded together and there was something really neat and genuine about their relationship. Unfortunately, it was pretty much the only thing that worked in this movie and, to make things worse, they broke this relationship almost right from the start which was, in my opinion, a huge mistake. It’s not that the concept was really bad (it was still hardly original though), it was more that the whole thing was just so flat and unfunny. Indeed, Melissa McCarthy basically played her typical foul-mouthed (slightly less) fat dim-witted woman, a role which did manage to launch her career at some point, but she has done this gimmick too many times by now and it did outstay its welcome a long time ago already. Concerning Octavia Spencer, she was basically given nothing to do except looking annoyed at McCarthy’s character’s antics so she was pretty much wasted here. Concerning the rest of the cast, Pom Klementieff did have some fun playing a bloodthirsty villain but her character was terribly one-note. Eventually, the only one who managed to do something slightly more interesting was Jason Bateman who played one of the weirdest super-heroes ever but, even in his case, this character was still barely developed whatsoever.

Jurassic Park
Notes: I must have been 13 or 14 years old when I saw this flick and I had the pleasure to see it in the movie theater when it was released. I must admit it, at the time, I was quite blown away by its visual aspect. I mean, back then, there wasn't such an overdose of CGI like today, back then it was something new and it was just downright impressive. Actually, there were just 6 minutes of CGI and the rest was animatronics, just to give you an idea about the fact that wall-to-wall CGI is absolutely not needed. Anyway, this movie definitely belongs to the biggest classics directed by Spielberg and it was the highest grossing movie ever made until 'Titanic' came out. Still, even though I was completely blown away by the special effects, I still can't say the same thing about the plot and the characters though. I mean, even though the whole thing was very entertaining and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat through most of the duration, it was still nothing extraordinary and all the characters were all really stereotypical and none of them was remotely interesting. But, damned, it was still awe inspiring to see for the very first time ever such realistic dinosaurs on the silver screen.
