Notes: I’m pretty sure I did watch this animated feature when I was a kid, probably even at school. I was quite impressed back in those days and I thought it was time for a re-watch. Personally, I always had a weak spot with animated features trying to be aimed towards a grown-up audience. Indeed, the market is dominated by the kiddies stuff, which is fine, but the tone is rather monotonous. It was also one of the major weaknesses in this flick, the way they still added some little fluffy bits here and there. It is rather understandable, I mean, the whole thing was terribly bleak which was quite shocking for the audience at the time so, they added the children friendly stuff to make sure they didn’t completely alienate the viewers. Personally, I think they should have gone all the way. Still, I thought it was quite fascinating to behold. Indeed, in my opinion, even though this movie was used as anti-communist propaganda by the CIA I think it gives a very good depiction about what went wrong with this ideology. Basically, Communism is actually a great way of thinking but it has been corrupted by some opportunists with the results that everyone thinks that this ideology is complete rubbish.3 years, 8 months ago

Notes: To be honest, I have to admit that I always had a hard time with the screwball comedies and, even though this movie is probably one of the most famous in this genre, I still had a hard time to really care for it. I mean, it's not that the damned thing didn’t have some potential, in the contrary. Indeed, it was dealing with a rather lugubrious concept and it could have been an awesome dark comedy. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the tone was just too whimsical for my taste. As a result, the whole insanity angle which was quite fascinating was in fact rather poorly developed. Furthermore, even though Cary Grant was a great choice to play the main character, he didn’t deliver one of his best performances (in fact, Grant himself often called it his least favorite of all his movies). On the other hand, Peter Lorre was basically born to play such characters and even though Priscilla Lane didn’t have much to do, she looked really lovely.3 years, 8 months ago

Notes: Unfortunately, even though it turned out to be a decent watch, I can't say I was really blown away by the damned thing though. I mean, to be honest, after watching this movie, I was actually wondering why the critics loved it so much. Seriously, the structure was just really classic and predictable and, from the moment the mystery was revealed, as usual in this genre, the whole thing went just way over the top and, to be honest, I had a rather hard time to really care about what happened afterwards. Still, even though it didn't turn out to be such a masterpiece, it was still fairly entertaining. Indeed, Daniel Kaluuya gave a really a solid performance and even though his character went through some completely unbelievable nonsense, he kept it really grounded and I was always rooting for the guy. His buddy Rodney was also pure gold and, in fact, I wish they brought him as well in this demented journey. Anyway, even if I think it is actually overrated and even though I think my rating might be actually generous here, it is definitely worth a look though.3 years, 9 months ago

Notes: At some point, I started to watch the classics directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, especially since their movies were considered as the Golden Age of British cinema. This one was the 2nd movie they directed together and it would be their first critical and commercial hit. Well, to be honest, it actually took me a while to get into this story but it was eventually really worth it. Indeed, the whole thing turned out to be some rather fascinating study of a character with a 40 years span. I was first of all blown away by the make-up but it was also a very nuanced movie. The directing was also quite impressive and the actors were top notch. It was also rather amazing that they dared portray a German character in a postive light (It seems that Churchill hated this flick). And, yet, like most of the movies directed by these guys, even though I was able to admit the work done, I still had a hard time to connect with the damned thing. At the end of day, it is all a matter of taste and, if you are into this kind of movies, you will love it, otherwise, it might actually bore you. 3 years, 9 months ago

Notes: Honestly, I'm not a fan of John Hughes' work but since this movie is a huge 80's classic, I was really eager to check it out and I had some pretty high expectations. Eventually, even though I enjoyed most of it and thought it was indeed pretty good, I still can't say I was blown away by the whole thing though. I mean, it was nice and entertaining, I was smiling from time to time but there was nothing really hilarious or fascinating about the whole thing whatsoever in my opinion. Furthermore, Ferris Bueller is apparently supposed to be this amazingly cool high-school dude but I thought he was just some average teenager who actually tends to be rather obnoxious and not really awesome or inspiring. In my opinion, to be honest, I think the whole thing is actually rather dated and its status of great classic is vastly overblown. One funny thing is that even though Matthew Broderick got his breakthrough by playing the coolest guy around the block, he would spend most of the rest of his career portraying some emotionally challenged and rather constipated characters. Still, even though I don’t think it was really that amazing , I have to admit it, it remains a well made and entertaining teen comedy.3 years, 9 months ago

What is it about?
Series based on the Marvel Comics superhero Hawkeye, centering on the adventures of Young Avenger, Kate Bishop, who took on the role after the original Avenger, Clint Barton.
My verdict:
Well, once again, even if it was nothing ground-breaking, I have to admit that I actually enjoyed the damned thing. Indeed, the master move from Marvel was that each miniseries that came out in 2021 was completely different then the others that came before. It's especially a burst of fresh air after all these huge blockbusters delivered by Marvel which were all fun and well made but, after more than 25 movies, the formula is getting pretty stale, especially with their last outings. 3 years, 9 months ago
