The Postman Always Rings Twice
Notes: I have already seen two other versions of this story ('Ossessione' (1943), 'The Postman Always Rings Twice' (1981)) and this version is best one I have seen so far. Indeed, even though you didn't have the explosive sex scenes from the Jack Nicholson-Jessica Lange version, John Garfiel and Lana Turner had together some very nice chemistry and they made one of the best doomed couples I have ever seen. Basically, they were not really good, they were not really bad either, they were both continuously fighting the feelings they had but they couldn't get rid off each other. Even though it was already the 3rd time around I watched this story, it was just spellbinding and it is definitely one of the best film noir I have seen so far. It tends to drag a little bit towards the end but it might have to do with the fact that I already knew the whole thing by heart at this point.

A good movie

“I wasnโ€™t really sure what to expect from this flick but the story did sound intriguing and since I have a weak spot for Bryan Cranston, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, it was definitely a strong story and the movie itself was decent enough but, to be honest, not much more than that. ” read more

A Room with a View
Notes: To be honest, Iโ€™m not a huge fan of costumes dramas. Indeed, even though they can be entertaining, I always have a hard time to care about all those white rich people whining about they so-called difficult life. I mean, when they are complaining about the fact that they canโ€™t marry the woman/man/dog/whatever they love, most of the common folks were starving and working for hours to make sure the privileged one could sustain their life style. Still, I have to admit, some movies in this genre are really good and this flick is one fine example. Not surprisingly, it was directed by James Ivory, the grand-master of the genre. Apparently, he seems to be more or less retired nowadays but back then, he was at the top of his game. Indeed, the story was for once intriguing and the directing by Ivory was just really solid just as usual. Eventually, the main attraction was to see Helena Bonham Carter and Daniel Day-Lewis in their breakthrough performances though. Above all, I was once again really impressed by Day-Lewis. Indeed, if you are familiar with his work, youโ€™ll notice that what he has created here (a repressed, snobbish Edwardian upperclassman) was really different than his other characters but it was still completely convincing and just impressive to behold.
