An average movie

“Since I always had a a weak spot for Denzel Washington and since this movie was fairly successful at the box-office, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, to be honest, I was amazed by how underwhelming the damned thing actually turned out to be. I mean, sure,  it was well made and Denzel Washin” read more

A very good movie

“One of the (very few) positive aspects of 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' is that it has allowed this movie to be reevaluated. Indeed, up to that point, it was usually considered as the weakest link in this mighty franchise but not anymore. As far as I'm concerned, even though i” read more

An average movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick. Still, I remember it very well, before watching the damned thing, since it was involving such actors like Dustin Hoffman, Nicole Kidman and Bruce Willis, I had some rather high expectations. Eventually, I was actually amazed about how h” read more

Notes: This movie seemed to have a pretty good reputation and I was really eager to check it out. Well, to be honest, it is not very often that I see such an heralded feature turning out to be so unappealing to me. I mean, obviously, it was not bad at all but I just had a really hard time to connect with the damned thing. At least, I really loved this scene at the beginning with this duo between one of the girls and some French singer. Seriously, it was amazing and one of the most beautiful musical scenes I have witnessed in a movie. It was pretty awesome but unfortunately, that's about the only thing that I really loved with this movie. I mean, sure, it was all well done and acted but, in my opinion, the message of this movie was basically ‘don't worry if you waste your whole life, there is still a chance that God welcome you in heaven’ and it was seriously difficult to swallow.

An average movie

“A couple of weeks ago, I saw ‘Arbitrage’ which turned out to be a pretty good flick and I was above all impressed by Richard Gere who gave in this movie easily one of his best performances. With this in mind, I thought I might as well check this other thriller he made just a year before. Well, t” read more

A good movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie but, if I recall it correctly, I actually saw the damned thing in the movie theater when it was released. Basically, it is a rather typical British comedy with a fairly realistic social background. The interesting thing about this movie ” read more

Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
Notes: Basically, this movie would be Robin Williams's first real commercial and critical hit (he would even get his first nomination for the Academy Award for the Best Actor in a Leading Role) and it would in fact provide the blue-print for most of his future work. To be honest, like most of the other popular movies starring this actor, I always had some mixed feelings about this flick. I mean, sure, the whole thing was fairly entertaining and Robin Williams really owned this part but, in my opinion, the whole thing was in fact rather shallow. For example, even though it was supposedly based on a true story, the actual guy never used comedy in his broadcasts and he said himself that if he would have done half the things Williams did in the film, he would have been court-martialed. So, even though it was taking place in a real war and even though it was based on a real DJ, the whole thing was in fact just a big fantasy, just some popcorn feature, and therefore, I always had a hard time to take the damned thing seriously.

A very good movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this movie and I should definitely rewatch it at some point. First of all, I have been defending Nicolas Cage for as long as I could but, I have to admit it, his career has been seriously underwhelming the last 10 years and most of his movies are p” read more

A good movie

“To be honest, I wonder how I actually ended up watching this movie. If I recall it correctly, it was broadcast on TV and since the review in my TV mag was really positive, I thought I might as well check it out. Basically, it was a rather complex feature mixing 3 different stories and, even though i” read more

Moonstruck (1987)
Notes: To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and maybe I should give it a 2nd chance. The point is that this movie has a really solid reputation, the late Roger Ebert really loved it for example but, personally, I failed to see what was so amazing about the damned thing. I mean, as a matter of fact, I do have a weak spot for romantic-comedies but, I don’t know, I really had a hard time to connect with this tale. Sure, I have to admit it, it was a decent watch and Cher and Nicolas Cage (when he used to be one of the most interesting actors around) both gave some fine performances but I thought the whole thing was just way over the the top. Of course, it was supposed to be over the top but, in my case, I thought it was more annoying than actually entertaining. Basically, I wanted to slap them in their face and ask them to get their act together. They are meant to be each other, we got it, no need to make such a fuss about it.

An average movie

“With such an interesting director and above all such an all-star cast, it was not surprising that this movie had a pretty good buzz before it came out. However, when it was released, it didn’t make much waves after all. And, indeed, I’m afraid the whole thing didn’t really work. I mean, this s” read more
