An average movie

“Even though this movie had a rather lousy reputation, since I always had a weak spot for Brian De Palma’s work, I still wanted to check it out. Basically, the whole thing was some kind of really misguided book adaptation and it was at the time a major critical and commercial flop. To be honest, I ” read more

An average movie

“To be honest, it has been a while since I have seen this flick and maybe I should check it out again at some point. Well, even though this movie seems to have a decent reputation, I always had some mixed feelings about the damned thing. First of all, I’m afraid it came too late. Indeed,  apparent” read more

Wings of Desire
Notes: It is definitely one of the movies that I absolutely need to re-watch at some point. Still I remember very well the first time I saw it. Indeed, I loved ‘Paris, Texas’, it was definitely one of the best movies I had ever seen so I was really eager to check Wim Wenders’s follow-up, especially since it has such a stellar reputation. Well, to be honest, even though I did liked the damned thing, I can't say that it really blew me away though. Basically, I was able to see that it was a work of Art, no doubt about it, but while I was completely swept away by ‘Paris, Texas’, I never felt so much connection with this story and the characters involved. Still, it remains major classic and it is definitely worth a look.

A good movie

“Since this movie turned out to be quite successful at the box-office, I was quite eager to check it out. Well, first of all, I thought that the opening scenes were really strong. Indeed, it is when you get to see where those guys started that the whole thing worked out the most and, at that point, I” read more

A good movie

“I already saw this movie but since I bought a brand new TV, I thought I might as well check it out again. I remember the first time around I saw the damned thing though. Indeed, back then, Marvel did impress me again. I always thought that there would be an overdose of super-hero features and, yet, ” read more

The Princess Bride (1987)
Notes: Back in the 80’s, Rob Reiner was one of the most successful directors at work. I mean, just check his track-record, it is quite impressive (‘This Spinal Tap’, ‘The Sure Thing’, ‘Stand by Me’, ‘When Harry Met Sally...’, ‘Misery’, ‘A Few Good Men’). But then, he made ‘North’. Indeed, it was a massive flop, both financially and critically, and it seems that already 20 years later Rob Reiner has still not recovered from the damage. Anyway, this flick was one of the many classics he made back in the good old days and since it had a very good reputation, I was really eager to check it out. To be honest, I don't think I was really blown away like many of its fans, I think I should have watched it when I was a kid and I would have really loved it back in those days. Still, it is definitely a very good fantasy feature and even though they used many stereotypes in this genre, those were used very well and Reiner managed to give them a very nice twist.
