An average movie

“All my life, I have been fascinated with movies. Obviously, it took me some time to finally get some understanding about the subject and, when I was a kid, like anyone else, I made some rather dubious choices. For example, when this movie was released, I must have been around 12 years old and I thou” read more

Notes: Raoul Ruiz is not really well known here in listal but he is actually a quite interesting director. He actually died in 2011 but he had a productive career, directing more than 100 movies. Even though he was Chilean, most of those movies were made in France as he fled his home-country from Pinochet's dictatorship. Anyway, I heard a lot about the guy so I was really intrigued by his work and when I finally got the opportunity to get acquainted, I was rather thrilled. Even though I don't think this movie was really amazing, I still think it was pretty good. Indeed, first of all, you have a very good cast (Marcello Mastroianni, Melvil Poupaud, Chiara Mastroianni, Arielle Dombasle, Smaïn) and I especially enjoyed the late Marcello Mastroianni who was definitely one of the best actors ever. I also enjoyed the story which was pretty surrealistic, a trademark in Ruiz work. Still, even though the story was all right, I missed a lot of the symbolism (I'm not smart enough, I guess...) and I thought the pacing was rather sluggish but it is inherent to the genre, I'm afraid.

“Even though this movie didn’t get much love when it was released, since I have been following Woody Allen for more than 20 years by now, I still wanted to check it out. Eventually, at first, I really loved the concept. Indeed, I always had a weak spot for illusionists and I thought it was pretty n” read more

“I remember very well when this movie was released. Indeed, following ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ which was critically very well received and Steven Soderbergh’s biggest box-office success, he came up with this more experimental and it was a huge critical failure at the time. In fact, I even saw the dam” read more

“I already saw this movie but since it was ages ago, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, I always had a weak spot for Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer, Pacino was especially at the top of his game at the time, and it was really neat to see them working again together almost 10 years af” read more

Notes: I always had some mixed feelings about this movie. Indeed, back in those days, there was a huge buzz about this flick and, thanks to this feature, Geoffrey Rush's career finally took off and he became afterwards a familiar face in many popular movies. It also launched the career of Scott Hicks who has been working in the US ever since even though none of his other movies have been really successful. Coming back to Geoffrey Rush, he even got an oscar for his performance which I always find rather odd. Indeed, even though he gave a strong performance, Rush was maybe only 20 or 30 minutes in the movie and was hardly the main actor in this flick. Furthermore, even though I thought the story was really interesting, I didn't think it was mind-blowing whatsoever and, honestly, I think this movie is actually a little bit overrated. I mean, I have always been fascinated by the movies dealing with mental illness and this movie developed some intriguing ideas but, somehow, I wasn’t really blown away by the whole thing.

“Since this movie belongs to the Disney Classics collections and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. To be honest, at first, I was a little bit worried. Better Call Saul
What is it about? The trials and tribulations of criminal lawyer, Jimmy McGill, in the time leading up to establishing his strip-mall law office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My verdict: Following 'Breaking Bad', Vince Gilligan came up with easily one of the most successful spin-offs ever made and, of course, I was planning to watch the damned thing at some point. Since I really enjoyed a lot 'Breaking Bad', like everyone else, it is actually rather surprising that it took me so long to finally watch the damned thing but it was definitely worth it. To be honest, 'Breaking Bad' was better though. Indeed, Walter White was and still is a more interesting than Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman but, above all, Jimmy is missing some good supporting characters like Walter used to have. Still, it is a really solid show nonetheless. Will I watch the following seasons? Yes, I have watched the whole thing by now.

A very good movie

“Back in 1995, I saw ‘Dead Man’ in the movie theater and I was completely blown away by the whole thing. Indeed, I never saw anything similar before, it was indeed the first movie directed by Jim Jarmusch that I had the pleasure to see and it became instantly one of my all-time favorites. So, whe” read more
